Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Registration and Patient Information, the Administrative Support III - Patient Registration Clerk serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors accessing services through various registration areas within Alberta Health Services (AHS). The accuracy of this information is critical to ensuring continuity of care, proper billing, patient safety, and effective communication across healthcare teams. This role actively maintains a strong customer service orientation, consistently presenting a welcoming, professional, and compassionate image of AHS and HIM to support seamless patient flow and registration processes. The incumbent will be required to: Demonstrate proficiency in patient registration processes and positive patient identification in accordance with the Provincial Registration Standards and Practices Manual (PRSP). Adhere to mandatory privacy legislation, including the Health Information Act (HIA), Access to Information Act (ATIA), and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), and complete all duties in accordance with Provincial policies and procedures, legislation and regulations. Advocate for and implement the name Occupation Duty (NOD) philosophy. Foster a culturally competent, inclusive and diverse workplace environment. Promote and practice the Just Culture guiding principles to live our AHS cares organizational values of compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety.

As an Administrative Support III, you will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, practices and initiatives within a department or program.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following post-secondary programs: Medical Office Assistant. Unit Clerk specialty. Post-secondary education applicable to the position. Medical Terminology (if not included in one of the above programs). Minimum of 1 year of recent experience (within the last 2 years) in a healthcare setting, (e.g., hospital, clinic, or health authority department), demonstrating familiarity with medical terminology, patient interaction, and healthcare workflows. Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in patient registration, demographic validation, and data entry. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel,) and Windows operating systems. Demonstrated excellence in professional customer service delivery, with the ability to provide a professional, respectful, and compassionate experience for patients and visitors in both in-person and virtual interactions. Proficiency in Medical Terminology, typing speed of 40 WPM, phone etiquette, and written and verbal English communication (tests administered).

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Connect Care, Netcare, Person Directory, EMPI and MS Office (Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams). Proven ability to remain calm, courteous, and professional in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations, such as Emergency room settings or end-of-life care discussions. Experience using digital communication platforms (MS Teams, Zoom) for remote collaboration and training. in a healthcare or administrative setting.
