The Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP) is seeking a highly motivated and analytical Senior Financial Analyst to join our finance team. This position provides specialized financial support to the Departments of Clinical Neurosciences, Psychiatry, Surgery, Anesthesia, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Calgary Corridor. AMHSP supports the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of physician compensation programs and initiatives across Alberta Health Services (AHS). AMHSP offers alternatives to the traditional fee for service physician compensation model and support physicians in taking an innovative approach to the delivery of health care. This role supports both academic and clinical operations and serves as a trusted advisor to physicians, department leaders, and administrative teams. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of financial activities within each Department (AHS and UofC). Primary responsibilities include lead budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis. Support month-end reporting, annual budget processes, and financial reconciliations. Conduct financial reviews, feasibility assessments, and impact analyses for programs and initiatives. Manage contracts, payments, and related financial administration.
Description:
As a senior financial analyst, you will prepare complex financial and statistical analysis, reports, and forecasts to support operational decision-making, strategic planning, and external reporting requirements. Key responsibilities include budget development and monitoring, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and identifying opportunities for program, process, and cost efficiencies. The Senior Analyst ensures continuation of data/information flow and develops comprehensive requirement documents detailing required data, functions, processes and general performance metrics to be incorporated within the scope of the defined solution. He/she will establish and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across multiple and diverse health environments (physicians, leadership, and staff) to fully understand business needs and support organizational goals and priorities. Advanced Excel skills and Power BI, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach are essential to success in this role. You will provide financial insights and recommendations to senior level management, operating portfolios, and external reporting requirements. In addition, you will coordinate and monitor the progress of financial projects. This is a leadership position where the Senior Analyst will oversee and provide guidance and support to junior analysts and administrative staff, helping to support a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics or related discipline. A minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting, financial planning, or financial advisory role. Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting & analysis, budget reconciliation, and variance analysis. Experience providing financial advice and consultative support to operational leaders and business partners. Strong analytical and interpersonal skills. Ability to perform strategically and systematically. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically and solve problems with minimum supervision. Must be able to work comfortably in fast paced environment with great time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Additional Required Qualifications:
CPA designation or MBA (completed or in progress). Experience with Power BI, Hyperion, Oracle, or similar financial systems. Experience in healthcare, continuing care, public sector, government-funded, or other large, complex organizations. Experience providing financial advice to senior leadership, working with large datasets, financial modelling, business intelligence, reporting, or data analytics tools. Experience supporting organizational planning, business cases, or strategic initiatives.
