Your Opportunity:
The UAH Medicine Relief Team at the University of Alberta Hospital provides relief (float) staff to 13 Medicine units providing care for General Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pulmonary, Nephrology, GI and Hematology patients. The Medicine program is a dynamic and fast paced adult acute care program dedicated to best practice in providing patient and family centered care. Care is delivered by an interdisciplinary collaborative care team in accordance with the AHS Values, hospital policies and nursing care standards. Specific Accountabilities: As a member of the collaborative, interdisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The relief (float) LPN will go to all medicine units as required.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the organization's shared vision and values.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Must the able to work to full scope of practice (physically, mentally and emotionally) on all medicine units. Must be able to work within posted position rotation and shifts. Must be able to push, pull and lift at least 50 lbs. Basic computer and email skills required. Experience working within an acute care practice setting within the last year required or a recent graduation from a recognized nursing school within the last year. Other key competencies for this role include: Interpersonal, organizational and assessment skills. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team. Ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members. Ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and work conditions. Accountability, critical thinking, time management and communication skills. Ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise, with initiative and self-direction.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a casual or float position preferred. Experience working within the CoACT framework preferred. Order Processing and Transcription experience preferred. IV Certification preferred. Ventilator skills preferred.
