A part of HSS’ Legal & Privacy Branch, the overarching Information & Privacy team is responsible for access to information, privacy business advisory, privacy breach investigations and privacy impact assessments. Description:
This is a professional position reporting to the Director, Privacy Breach Investigations and Privacy Impact Assessments. The role requires collaboration with various business units to create and submit program specific privacy impact assessments. The position supports the vision, mission and business plan of HSS information and privacy and organizational stakeholders. Working with minimal supervision, the incumbent will apply privacy expertise to: Provide strategic privacy guidance to various key stakeholders in the organization. Demonstrate diverse knowledge of privacy impact assessments and privacy auditing requirements. Assess privacy risk for new or modified business initiatives to comply with Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA), Access to Information Act (ATIA), Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and HSS policies and procedures. Apply and identify privacy best practices for identifying personal information safeguards and risk mitigation. Work collaboratively with HSS departments, including Legal, Information Technology and Security, Health Information Management, Medical Affairs and Human Resources to support key stakeholders and initiatives to align with HSS mandates and strategies. This position may qualify for hybrid or remote working arrangements. The incumbent must be able to attend HSS sites in Calgary or Edmonton for in-person meetings.

Required Qualifications:
A minimum of five (5) years related information, privacy impact assessment experience in a private or public sector environment or, in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Experience in the Health industry or Legal is an asset. The ability to interpret privacy legislative requirements is an asset. A diverse working knowledge of information privacy principles and knowledge of Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA), Access to Information Act (ATIA), Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and other similar access and privacy legislation is required. Post-secondary degree or demonstrated education in Privacy, Legal, Information Management, Public Health, Business Administration, Health Sciences or related area. Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year experience for one year education or one year of education for one year of experience.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experienced with writing privacy impact assessments. Experienced in legal research, investigative and auditing practices, information analysis and interpretation. Demonstrated skills for customer service, relationship building and networking, effective communication, problem solving and consultation, with a keen eye for detail and respect for confidentiality. Knowledge of data evaluation methodologies, report development, and processing and maintaining legal files. Ability to negotiate with and handle demanding clients, strong commitment to operating within a team environment, and project management experience is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certified Information and Privacy Professional (CIPP/C) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM). Canadian Information Access and Privacy Professional (CIAPP) or Master Access Privacy Professional (MAPP). Completion of the University of Alberta IAPP Certificate Program. Knowledge of how Health Shared Services functions within the restructured health system.
