Are you a Registered Nurse (RN) looking to enhance your skills and specialize in the care of acute neuroscience patients? Look no further! The Neurosciences units at the University of Alberta Hospital are unique within Alberta Health Services, providing specialized care for acute strokes, brain injuries, brain tumors, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological issues. In this role, the acute neuroscience RN works to the full scope of practice, providing comprehensive nursing care for patients and their families. This is achieved within a team-oriented environment that values multidisciplinary collaboration among NPs, LPNs, HCAs, MDs, OTs, PTs, SWs, dietitians, and pharmacists. Our daily practice reflects a strong commitment to teamwork and excellent inter-professional communication. The Neuroscience Acute Stroke unit offers advancement opportunities, including the management of drains, acute stroke care, and other acute neurological issues. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide range of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations, ensuring their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel, and advocate for patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance. You will deliver safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care while embodying the shared vision and values of AHS.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Responsible for providing proof of active registration with the CRNA and maintaining registration throughout employment. Physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including lifting, pulling and pushing up to 50 lbs. Basic computer skills required. Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, demonstrated by the ability to direct other healthcare workers, problem solve and escalate. Managing and escalating clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Strong communication and organizational skills. Commitment to patient and family-centered care. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families, and team members. Successful applicants will undergo Neuroscience Orientation classes to enter the program. Connect care related experience. Med- Surg Nursing experience.

Responsibilities

Requirements
Applicants must complete an accredited nursing education program, be actively registered or eligible for a practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, and hold current BCLS-HCP certification. They must demonstrate strong communication, organization, leadership, critical-thinking, and collaboration skills, be able to perform physical duties including lifting up to 50 pounds, and provide proof of active registration throughout employment.
