Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Staffing Service Centre Relief Team Program Manager, the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive patient- and family-centred care on acute surgical units at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care in accordance with RAH and Alberta Health Services policies and procedures. Our surgical units use a collaborative care nursing model on all shifts, with RNs, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Health Care Aides working together to meet patient needs. You will have opportunities to practise to full scope, including complex patient assessment and management, care coordination, clinical leadership, and interprofessional collaboration. You will also provide direction and monitor care delivered by LPNs and HCAs while supporting your RN colleagues. This position offers a supported pathway into surgical float nursing. You will begin by orienting to two inpatient surgical units and gradually expand your practice as your competence and confidence grow, with the opportunity to eventually float across up to nine units. This progressive approach builds broad surgical expertise while ensuring you are well prepared for each new practice environment. In this role, you will: Provide comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for acute surgical patients. Manage complex and changing patient needs using sound clinical judgment and timely prioritization. Coordinate care and provide clinical leadership within the interprofessional team. Provide direction and monitor care delivered by LPNs and HCAs within their respective scopes of practice. Collaborate with and support RN colleagues across diverse surgical practice environments. Participate in front-line quality improvement initiatives and support high-quality patient care strategies across the Surgery Program.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Excellent time-management, organization, and prioritization skills. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced acute care environment. Strong clinical judgment, problem-solving, critical-thinking, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to integrate patient- and family-centred care principles into nursing practice. Understanding of CoACT and collaborative care within the acute care setting. Demonstrated leadership and ability to coordinate, direct, and monitor care within a collaborative nursing team. Ability and willingness to progressively develop the competencies required to work across multiple inpatient surgical units.
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent inpatient surgical acute care experience within the last two years is strongly preferred. Experience caring for patients across more than one inpatient surgical unit. Preference will be given to applicants with current or previous experience in the RAH Surgery Float Pool. Order processing and transcription experience. Charge Nurse experience. IV certification. Demonstrated interest in expanding surgical knowledge and progressively developing the ability to practice across multiple units.
