Original job description
The Gynecology Oncology Clinic RN practices in an ambulatory setting, integrating knowledge of gynecologic cancer pathophysiology, disease progression, and symptoms to provide safe, evidence based care for patients and families. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates interventions and other clinical activities for individuals with ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and related malignancies across the cancer continuum. The RN identifies and assesses physical, psychological, sociological, and spiritual needs, recognizing the unique impacts of gynecologic cancers on body image, fertility, and quality of life. The nurse conducts assessments, interprets clinical information, and collaborates with oncologists and interprofessional team members to develop and revise person centered care plans. Referrals are facilitated to other disciplines to ensure timely, coordinated responses to patient and family needs. A key responsibility is early recognition and management of priority situations, including oncologic emergencies such as sepsis, venous thromboembolism, or acute bleeding, ensuring that urgent issues are triaged and escalated efficiently. The RN applies knowledge and technical skills for assessment, establishes and documents nursing care, and prioritizes teaching, supporting, informing, and advocating for patients and families. The RN supports clinical research, participates in quality assurance activities, and may contribute to unit or program committees and initiatives. Leadership is demonstrated through acting as a resource, preceptor, or mentor, consistent with oncology nursing practice standards. The RN maintains required certifications, engages in ongoing professional education, and participates in staff and patient teaching. This is a multi site position commencing at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI) with work at CCI and satellite clinics as required.
