Unit 48, a Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), provides inpatient care for Cardiology and Acute Medical patients. This unit fosters a strong collaborative team environment with Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health Professionals and Support Workers. The CCU at the Peter Lougheed Center maintains an excellent relationship with Medical Cardiology, Unit 49. There may be instances where the successful applicant is asked to provide assistance on Unit 49.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Advanced Cardiac Dysrhythmia is required. Hemodynamic monitoring (care of, and troubleshooting) is required. Administration of intravenous central and arterial lines, direct IV medications, including the IV administration of Inotrope/Vasoactive medications is required. Defibrillation and cardioversion are required. Conducting and interpreting 12-lead Electrocardiogram (ECG) is required. Care and management of temporary pacemakers is required. Ability to work within the full scope of an RN. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Ability to assist with communication/ implementation of initiatives. Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a stressful multidisciplinary environment. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is preferred. Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) membership (Cardiology or Critical Care) is preferred. 3 years’ experience within the last 5 years in acute medical/cardiovascular nursing is required. Certified and proficient in all CCU advanced competencies is preferred. Experience with Connect Care, Clinibase, Netcare, and Meta vision are preferred. Basic knowledge of computers and software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office).
