JOIN OUR TEAM at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). Our Rehabilitation Department is an integral part of the exceptional care delivered at the RAH. We are a collaborative team of OTs, PTs, Recreation Therapists, SLPs, and Therapy Assistants, driven by a commitment to clinical excellence, professional growth, and compassionate patient care. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Step into a vital role where you'll make a real impact on patient care. As part of the acute care team, you’ll manage inpatients with swallowing and communication challenges, playing a key role in their recovery journey. You'll perform both bedside and instrumental assessments, delivering timely, evidence-based interventions to support safe swallowing and effective communication. Description:

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Heart & Stroke CPR (BCLS-HCP) certification is required. Candidates must have at least six months of experience managing dysphagia in an adult inpatient acute care setting; or at least one acute care placement for new grads. Strong clinical reasoning skills are essential, along with excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, planning, and organizational abilities. Must be experienced working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, while also being capable of practicing independently. Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) is expected, and experience with Connect Care is preferred. As work tasks and charting are computer-based, candidates must be able to perform extensive repetitive motion tasks and tolerate long periods of sitting or standing. Candidates must be physically capable of assisting with patient transfers and repositioning, and able to tolerate wearing a lead vest for up to 30 minutes during procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with complex medical patient populations, including end-of-life care, chronic disease management, dementia and marginalized populations, along with a strong understanding of inner-city clients and available community resources, is preferred.
