Original job description

Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Philip C. Etches Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PCE NICU) located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, is a 69 funded bed unit that accepts babies from all over Northern Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and is characterized by high acuity and high activity. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model and is the only NIDCAP (Newborn Individualized Developmental Care and Assessment Program) training center in Canada. The Program has a dedicated Resuscitation and Stabilization Team (RST) who respond to the high-risk case-room at the Lois Hole Hospital. The Program is involved in several quality improvement initiatives. As a dedicated nursing student, you play a crucial role as an essential member of our dynamic and collaborative healthcare team. If you are currently in your fourth year of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and have a passion for critical care, we encourage you to consider applying. Eligibility is only open to students who are currently enrolled in an approved Baccalaureate Nursing program graduating in Spring 2027. The Undergraduate Nursing Employee (UNE) position provides an opportunity for the nursing student employed as a UNE to consolidate the knowledge and skill acquired in their approved nursing education program towards competency in the range and complexity of Registered Nurse (RN) practice. The UNE is an unregulated member of the collaborative health care team who provides patient centered care with the supervision of the RN. The nursing activities performed, and level of supervision required are determined by legislation, standards of supervision outlined by regulatory colleges, Alberta Health Services (AHS) policy, educational preparation, practice setting, complexity of the patient, level of risk involved, and competency of the UNE.
