What We Do

Since 1973, The Alex has been a community-based, not-for-profit organization providing integrated primary health care, community support services, and housing-focused programs to individuals and families who experience barriers to accessing traditional health, housing, and social service systems. Services are grounded in principles of health equity, low-barrier access, trauma-informed practice, cultural safety, harm reduction, and person-centered care.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, The Accountant is responsible for preparing monthly general ledger reconciliations and annual and semi-annual returns. The role also supports payroll reporting and provides general accounting support to the Finance team.

This is a permanent, part-time position.

What You Will Do

Prepare payroll, ADP, and group insurance reconciliations, as well as spreadsheets and journal entries.
Perform bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
Prepare GST and WCB returns.
Maintain monthly working papers and prepare and enter journal entries.
Maintain capital asset schedules.
Assist with the preparation of external audits.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Accounting certificate required, or actively working toward a CPA designation; equivalent education and/or experience may be considered.
Minimum of two years of experience working in an accounting role, preferably within a non-profit organization.
Experience with Sage Intacct or other accounting software, as well as strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required.
Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action is preferred.

Work Environment and Hours:

The Alex Community Health Centre: 2840 – 2 Ave SE, Calgary, AB
0.6 FTE (22.5 hours of work/wk)
Standard hours are 8:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday; part-time hours are based on 3 days per week, with flexibility regarding which days are worked.
Sedentary role involving extended computer use and sitting.
Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 10–15 lbs).
Frequent repetitive hand and wrist movements.
