Algonquin College campuses in Ottawa and Pembroke are located on the traditional unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Anishinàbe Algonquin People. The Algonquin People have inhabited and cared for these lands since time immemorial. We take this time to express our gratitude and respect to them and to the land for all that it has provided and will continue to provide.

Job Description

The incumbent is a social innovator that significantly contributes to the successful transition and retention of students at Algonquin College through the provision of supports and services related to safe traditional and non-traditional off campus housing at each of the Algonquin campuses. The incumbent works with students and off campus housing providers to sustain existing rental opportunities through the creation of strong community partnerships.

The incumbent also develops new non-traditional rental opportunities through innovative initiatives like HomeShare, Places for Students, Spaces Shared, Sparrow or similar. In addition, the incumbent facilitates educational awareness sessions for students, families, Algonquin staff, and property owners and provides support for students that find themselves in need when navigating difficult rental arrangements or are without housing unexpectedly.

The incumbent works in partnership with the AC Day 1 Planning Committee to provide information and resources to student’s pre arrival, highlighting local resources, reputable housing options, tenant rights, safety tips and how to avoid frauds.

The incumbent coordinates and administers the college’s emergency housing response process for students experiencing homelessness or immediate housing crises. This includes conducting housing and risk assessments, determining eligibility for emergency housing supports, coordinating short-term emergency accommodations, and developing individualized stabilization plans in collaboration with students and internal and external partners. The incumbent provides crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, and ongoing case management while connecting students with appropriate supports such as financial assistance, shelters, mental health services, community agencies, and long-term housing resources. The incumbent must exercise sound judgement, maintain confidentiality, and respond effectively to urgent and high-risk situations that may impact student safety, wellbeing, retention, and academic success.
