Original job description
Company Description
Alliance Green Infrastructure (AGI) delivers sustainable, innovative construction solutions across Ontario. As part of the Verdi Alliance Group of Companies - a Canadian construction leader with more than 50 years of history - AGI provides Construction Management, Design Management, and Project Management services for complex infrastructure, facility renewal, decarbonization, and transit projects. Our work is driven by a clear purpose: building the infrastructure Ontario needs for a cleaner, more resilient, and more sustainable future. With a commitment to net-zero by 2040, AGI combines construction execution, technical expertise, and green infrastructure leadership to deliver projects that reduce emissions, modernize public assets, and support the communities we serve.
Role Description
AGI is seeking a high-calibre Estimator to own our estimating and cost consulting function as the division grows. This is a hands-on leadership role at the centre of every new opportunity: you will convert drawings, specifications, and contract documents into accurate, defensible, competitive estimates, and you will build the processes, tools, and pricing intelligence that the estimating department runs on.
You will work directly with the Director and the project delivery team, engage subtrades and suppliers, and help shape pursuit strategy on ICI site development and civil infrastructure work for public-sector owners, institutional clients, and private developers. If you are a purpose-driven professional with an entrepreneurial mindset who wants to build something rather than inherit it, we would like to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating Leadership
- Estimating & cost consulting leadership: Lead the full estimating cycle on small to mid-sized ICI site development and civil projects, and provide expert cost consulting across a diverse portfolio.
- Project scope analysis: Conduct detailed reviews of contract documents, specifications, geotechnical reports, and engineering drawings to determine and validate complete project requirements, and raise RFIs where documents are unclear or incomplete.
- Quantity take-offs & costing: Perform thorough quantity take-offs for earthworks, utilities, structures, electrical systems, infrastructure components, labour, equipment, and materials from project drawings and documents.
- Estimate development & validation: Develop conceptual, budgetary, and detailed cost estimates using industry-standard estimating software and traditional methods; validate every estimate for accuracy and completeness before it leaves the building.
- Risk assessment & mitigation: Identify and assess construction, design, schedule, and contractual risks; quantify them within the estimate; and recommend mitigation, qualifications, and contingency strategies informed by contract terms.
Pricing, Subtrades & Suppliers
- Pricing & market analysis: Research and evaluate current market pricing for materials, equipment, and labour; maintain a comprehensive database of regional benchmarks, production rates, and vendor information.
- Subtrade & supplier management: Solicit competitive pricing from subtrade partners and suppliers, review quotes for scope completeness and accuracy, level bids, and build lasting relationships with a reliable trade base.
Pursuits & Bid Management
- Pursuit strategy: Contribute to the development and execution of pursuit plans aimed at winning new work, expanding client portfolios, and positioning AGI for sustainable growth in key market sectors.
- Bid document control: Manage bid document control by organizing and archiving all estimate information for a clean handover to the project team; maintain a pipeline tracker of upcoming opportunities by sector and geography.
- Documentation & reporting: Prepare comprehensive cost reports, bid summaries, presentations, and cost substantiation (including material and labour breakdowns and supporting third-party reports) for internal and client review.
Team & Process
- Collaboration & communication: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including owners, consultants, and project managers, to align scope, assumptions, and final costs.
- Process improvement & mentorship: Grow the estimating department by developing new processes, templates, and tools; keep unit rates current with market conditions; and mentor junior estimators as the team expands.
