Original job description

BIG ENOUGH TO KNOW HOW, SMALL ENOUGH TO KNOW YOU!

Allnorth is a multi-disciplinary engineering, project delivery, and construction services company delivering innovative, practical solutions to clients across the metals and minerals, energy and renewables, fiber and chemicals, and infrastructure sectors. With offices throughout Canada and the United States, we are continuing to expand our reach and build for the future.

Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Guided by our triple bottom line (TBL) philosophy, we strive to create value for our people, our clients, our communities, and our business. We believe that engaged, talented, and empowered teams are essential to delivering exceptional results and building lasting client relationships. Safety is fundamental to who we are, and we are committed to fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities, giving back to the communities where we live and work, and being responsible stewards of the environment.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a Senior Structural Designer to join our team. Our work combines technical expertise with creative problem-solving to deliver practical, high-quality design solutions across a variety of projects. In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and contractors to bring projects from concept through to completion. You’ll be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team of engineers, EITs, designers, and project managers who value collaboration, innovation, and sharing knowledge to achieve great results.

A Day in the Life

Lead the development of structural designs and detailed drawings for industrial, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Prepare and review 2D drawings, 3D models, structural layouts, and construction details using industry-standard design software.
Develop structural arrangements and detailed design packages for steel structures, concrete foundations, buildings, platforms, and other structural components.
Interpret engineering sketches, specifications, calculations, and design criteria to produce accurate, practical, and constructible design solutions.
Coordinate structural designs with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration and minimize design conflicts.
Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance with project specifications and applicable codes and standards.
Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings to identify and resolve design issues.
Conduct site visits and field reviews to verify existing conditions, collect measurements, and support construction and installation activities.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, contractors, and fabricators to clarify design requirements and resolve technical challenges.
Support project planning and execution by managing design deliverables to meet established schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities to support ongoing projects and develop new business for Allnorth.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior designers, promoting design consistency, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

A diploma or degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Technology, Structural Design, or a related discipline.
7+ years of relevant structural design experience, ideally within an engineering consulting or industrial project environment.
Strong experience developing structural drawings, 3D models, layouts, and detailed design packages.
Proficiency with industry-standard CAD and structural design software
Experience with structural steel detailing, concrete foundations, building structures, platforms, and other structural components.
Knowledge of applicable building codes, structural design standards, drafting practices, and industry requirements.
An understanding of constructability, fabrication, erection, and installation requirements for structural systems.
Experience reviewing drawings and models for accuracy, quality, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities, with a commitment to supporting the professional development of other designers.
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, engineers, contractors, fabricators, and multidisciplinary project teams.
A proactive, detail-oriented approach to problem-solving, with a focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
