Role Description The Heavy Duty Cleaner is a temporary, on-site role based in North York, ON. This role is responsible for performing thorough cleaning of building interiors and exteriors, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and disinfecting floors, washrooms, stairwells, and common areas. Daily tasks may include garbage and recycling removal, operating cleaning equipment, restocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness in high-traffic spaces such as lobbies, corridors, and elevators. The Heavy Duty Cleaner will follow safety procedures and cleaning standards, report any maintenance or safety issues, and cooperate with supervisors and team members to meet service schedules. The role requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment with varying shifts as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience with heavy-duty cleaning tasks such as floor care, washroom sanitation, and waste removal, ideally in commercial or institutional facilities.
- Ability to safely use and maintain cleaning equipment and tools (e.g., auto scrubbers, buffers, vacuums, pressure washers) and handle cleaning chemicals according to guidelines.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including WHMIS or similar training, and adherence to company and site-specific safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills to complete tasks efficiently and meet cleaning schedules.
- Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks, lift moderate loads, stand and walk for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
- Basic communication skills to understand instructions, complete reports, and interact professionally with supervisors, teammates, and clients.
- Previous janitorial, custodial, or building maintenance experience is an asset; high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
