Vmware Consultant

One of Alquemy's clients, a utility in Edmonton, is looking for an Experienced VMware Implementor with expertise performing VMware upgrades. This role requires a technical architect/implementor with experience planning and implementing VMware upgrade from VSphere 8 to VCF 9.x spanning multiple data centres in Canada and the US.

Detailed Description

Our utility client runs a capital program each year to implement application and infrastructure changes in support of the business. In relation to these initiatives and some operational requirements we require an Infrastructure Architect/Implementer to assist with our design and upgrade implementation of VMware.

The accountabilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Work with an established team of solution architects to plan and execute an existing VMware environment upgrade to 9.x.

• Providing input to the IS Infrastructure project deliverables (schedules, test plans, test results, implementation plans, transition to operations, processes/procedures) and other documents as needed.

• Developing, implementing and reviewing the support processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards and regulatory requirements and to ensure mitigation of risk.

Standard Skill Set

The resource for the position will need to have established skills in the following areas:

• VMware Architecture, Design, Implementation Experience (Required)

• Experience with VMware environment upgrade to VCF 9.x (Required)

• Experience with workload migration to VCF 9.x (Required)

• VMware stack experience with: SRM, NSX-T, vSphere, vSAN, vLCM (Required)

• Lead VMware DR and High Availiability testing including SRM, vShere Replication (Desired)

• VMware professional training (Desired)

o VCP-DCV (Data Center Virtualization / vSphere)

o VCP-NV (Network Virtualization / NSX)

o VCP-TKG (Tanzu Kubernetes Grid)

Preferred Skills Requested

• The resource for the position will need to have established skills in the following The resource should possess the following qualifications:

• 2-year post-secondary diploma or a 4-year post-secondary degree in IT or Computing Science related field.

• 7 - 10 years of related experience in IT infrastructure.

• 4+ years experience working with VMware, including experience upgrading to VCF 9.x

• Skills and experience as a solution/system architect, working on or supporting infrastructure projects.

• Strong communication skills.

• Ability to understand and communicate key concepts.

• Understanding of IT business continuity, security, and other risk assessment and optimization methodologies.
