Reports to: Fire Assay Manager

About the Position:

Independently supports Fire Assay warehouse operations- covering receiving, inventory management, supply storage, issuing dispatching. This role combines heavy equipment operation, rigorous sample traceability, and strict adherence to safety and environmental protocols to support daily production goals.

Specific Responsibilities:

Inventory, Receiving & Dispatch

Receive, store, issue, and dispatch consumables, reagents, and other Fire Assay materials
Receive flux and other dry reagents, including internal transfers from the main warehouse, and verify counts, labels, seals, paperwork, and inventory
Receive consumables and reagents and check certificates of analysis, lot numbers, and expiry dates where applicable
Issue materials to production against requisitions and record batch and lot traceability

Warehouse Operations & Equipment

Operate propane-driven forklift and electric pallet jack in a safe and effective manner
Dump cupels, crucibles, slag waste, and manage super sacks
Load trailers using the forklift and safely maneuver the electric pallet jack inside the trailer
Work at height using approved equipment, including forklift and man-cage, where authorized
Operate warehouse and support equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, label printers, and scanners
Maintain minimum and maximum stock levels for crucibles, cupels, flux, litharge, and other materials

Tracking, Documentation & Quality Control

Conduct cycle counts and monthly stock takes and investigate inventory variances
Register and scan barcodes, or tracking sheets and maintain chain-of-custody records
Sort, stage, and deliver supplies to Fire Assay sections including fusion, cupellation, and finishing according to priority
Maintain records including receiving logs, inventory reports, and temperature or humidity records where required

Safety, Housekeeping & Compliance

Follow chemical handling rules, SDS requirements, PPE requirements, and segregation of incompatible materials
Support hazardous waste handling, including lead-containing waste, spent cupels, and slag, in accordance with procedures
Perform courtyard clean-up, including disposal of wood and metal waste into designated bins
Dispose of lead wastewater in the designated tote in accordance with established procedures
Manage Fire Assay supplies and maintain cleanliness of the warehouse floor and storage areas
Maintain clean and organized storage areas, clear aisles, and proper racking standards
Report incidents, spills, damaged goods, and near-misses immediately
Ensure all safe work procedures and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to
Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are complete
Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned

Fire Assay operation support

Crucible management and set up/prepare samples for fusion;
Perform fusion and cupellation processes using furnace tools;
Assist on Fire Assay floor housekeeping on a regular basis.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Core Technical Warehouse Competencies

Familiarity with warehouse, inventory, and material handling processes
Basic computer skills including LIMS, Excel, and ERP systems
Traceability-focused mindset with the ability to maintain chain-of-custody records
Understanding of hazardous materials, warehouse safety practices, and chemical handling requirements
Good physical stamina and safe manual handling practices

Required Qualifications:

Completion of High School Education required
Warehousing experience preferred
Forklift license, where required, with demonstrated safe operation
Laboratory, warehouse, or industrial experience in a production-oriented environment would be an asset
Experience handling chemicals, consumables, or production materials would be an asset.

Physical Demands

Lifting & Mobility

Able to lift up to 50lbs
Able to stand and walk for a full shift
Able to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
Possess manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks
Comfortable with forklift operation, pallet jack use, and working at height using approved equipment where authorized

Environment & Exposure

Able to work within a dusty and noisy environment
Able to work around lead-bearing materials while complying with required controls and PPE
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and may require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work, including weekends and overtime.

Health & Safety Compliance

Must be willing to comply with the following H&S requirements:
Be clean-shaven for Personal Protective Equipment (respirator), where required;
Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves, respirators, and other required safety equipment, when required
Shower before the end of each shift, where required
Undergo a lead blood test required every six months, where required
