Original job description

At Alstom, we build what millions depend on daily - rail transportation systems that can't afford to fail. We're more than 85,000 people worldwide creating the industry's most diverse portfolio: high-speed trains, metros, trams, maintenance services and integrated systems.

More Than a Job: A Mission

We are seeking a passionate Senior Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop advanced rail solutions, working alongside dedicated teams committed to excellence. As a professional and team manager, you will drive complex projects that ensure safety, reliability, and innovation in transportation.

Your Role, Your Impact

Architect scalable embedded systems for rail applications, ensuring robust performance across diverse environments.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software with hardware and system requirements.
Enhance reliability by implementing rigorous testing, validation, and fault-tolerant designs.
Champion innovation by introducing new technologies and methodologies to improve system efficiency.
Foster knowledge sharing through mentoring, documentation, and technical leadership within the team.

You'll work with sharp, committed teams solving complex challenges that shape the future of mobility, ensuring seamless integration of business and technology.

What You Bring

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in embedded software or embedded controls engineering, in complex electromechanical systems.
Strong hands-on experience in embedded software development using C/C++, including design, debugging, and maintenance of controller-based applications.
Experience ensuring full traceability between requirements, implementation, validation evidence.
Experience in laboratory validation environments, including development and maintenance of test benches and automation workflows using tools such as LabVIEW, NI software, MATLAB, or equivalent.
Ability to work across multiple engineering domains (software, controls, electrical, validation) to troubleshoot issues at system level (controller, communication, sensors, actuators, test benches)

How Success Is Measured

Consistent achievement of project delivery timelines and strategic objectives.
Effective collaboration and leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
Reduction in software defects and increased operational efficiency through proactive troubleshooting.

Alstom, A Great Place to Grow

Work with cutting-edge technology and contribute to Alstom’s strategic vision for sustainable mobility.
Make a global impact from our Brampton office, connecting communities and cities.
Advance your career through continuous learning, training, and development opportunities.

This job posting represents an existing vacancy.

Compensation

The expected compensation for this role is $90,000 - $120,000 CAD per year, plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience, and internal equity.

We do not use artificial intelligence in the recruiting process for this role.

Interview Process & Candidate Communication

Candidates who participate in an interview for this role will be informed of the hiring decision within 45 days of their final interview date

Here, progress isn't always easy but the impact is real. Because the scale is massive, the tasks are complex when the system runs, the train moves, and the city connects that feeling stays with you. And the legacy lasts.
