About the Opportunity

We're looking for a System Support Specialist who is passionate about technology, comfortable working with clients, and already using AI tools as part of their everyday work.

This isn't just a traditional IT support position. We're looking for someone who can solve technical problems, learn new systems quickly, and find better ways to get work done through AI, automation, and modern cloud technologies.

You'll work alongside our consulting and technical teams to support law firms across North America and help them get more value from their technology.

About ALT Consulting

ALT Consulting is a Canadian-based technology consulting and managed IT services firm with operations in Canada and the United States.

We specialize in helping law firms using Clio and Microsoft 365 improve how they work. We act as their technology department, providing ongoing IT support, cybersecurity, and strategic technology consulting.

Our work goes beyond keeping systems running. We help firms improve their operations by connecting software, automating processes, introducing AI, and making better use of the technology they already own.

We're actively embracing AI and automation in how we operate internally and deliver services to our clients. We're looking for people who share that mindset and want to help shape the next generation of technology services.

About the Role

As a System Support Specialist, you'll be responsible for supporting our clients' technology environments, resolving technical issues, and assisting with the implementation of new systems and solutions.

Your typical day may involve troubleshooting Microsoft 365, configuring devices, resolving client support requests, or assisting with a technology implementation.

You'll also spend time researching new technologies, evaluating AI tools, building automations, improving documentation, and finding ways to make our team and clients more effective.

We expect our team members to use AI as a regular part of their work, whether that's troubleshooting complex issues, writing scripts, conducting research, developing documentation, or exploring new solutions.

You'll have opportunities to collaborate with senior consultants, participate in client projects, and gain experience in cloud technologies, cybersecurity, legal technology, and AI-driven business improvements.

Responsibilities

Technical Support & Client Services

  • Provide technical support to clients across Microsoft 365, Windows, macOS, and cloud-based applications.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and user access issues.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain computers, applications, and cloud services.
  • Support client onboarding, system migrations, and technology implementations.
  • Communicate clearly with clients and provide a positive support experience.

AI, Automation & Continuous Improvement

  • Use AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting, research, documentation, and technical problem-solving.
  • Identify repetitive tasks and opportunities to improve or automate existing processes.
  • Research, evaluate, and experiment with emerging AI tools and technologies.
  • Assist in developing scripts, workflows, automations, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Help improve internal knowledge management and technical documentation.
  • Share discoveries and practical applications of new technologies with the team.
  • Apply appropriate security and confidentiality practices when working with AI.

Projects & Collaboration

  • Work with consultants and project managers to implement new client solutions.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365, cybersecurity, and legal technology projects.
  • Perform technical research, testing, configuration, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with teammates to resolve complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Participate in client meetings, technical assessments, and project updates as needed.

About You

We're looking for someone who is naturally curious, resourceful, and genuinely interested in technology.

AI fluency is particularly important to us.

You don't just know what ChatGPT is. You've spent meaningful time working with AI tools, understand their capabilities and limitations, and have developed your own ways of using them to solve problems.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Regular, hands-on experience with tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, or similar AI platforms.
  • Practical examples of using AI to solve technical problems, conduct research, write code or scripts, build workflows, or improve productivity.
  • An understanding of how to work effectively with AI, evaluate its outputs, and recognize when human verification is necessary.
  • An interest in experimenting with AI agents, automation platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • The ability to independently research unfamiliar technologies and turn what you learn into practical results.

You should also have:

  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting Windows computers and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • The ability to communicate professionally in English.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of problems.
  • A genuine interest in learning and continuously improving.
  • Patience and empathy when working with clients.
  • A valid driver's licence and access to transportation for occasional client visits.

A college diploma, university degree in an IT-related field, or equivalent practical experience is welcome. We place particular value on demonstrated ability, initiative, and a willingness to learn.

The Following Would Be An Asset

  • 3+ years of IT support, systems administration, or related experience.
  • Microsoft 365 administration, Entra ID, Intune, Defender, and Exchange Online.
  • PowerShell, Python, APIs, or other scripting experience.
  • Experience with automation platforms such as Power Automate, n8n, Make, or Zapier.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants, building AI agents, or integrating AI into existing workflows.
  • Familiarity with Clio or other legal practice management applications.
  • Experience with endpoint management, cybersecurity, networking, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience working in an MSP or IT consulting environment.

Growth Opportunities

As you develop your skills, you'll have opportunities to take on greater responsibilities and specialize in areas such as cloud systems, cybersecurity, legal technology consulting, AI automation, or technology leadership.

We value people who take initiative, challenge existing ways of working, and bring new ideas to the team.

How to Apply

We'd love to learn about your technical experience, but we're especially interested in how you're already using AI.

When applying, tell us about one or two practical ways you've used AI tools to solve a problem, improve a process, build something, or make your work more effective. Include which tools you used and what you accomplished.
