MUST BE IN EDMONTON, ALBERTA - WILLING TO WORK IN PERSON DOWNTOWN EDMONTON. AT THIS TIME, WE ARE NOT HIRING REMOTE.

Junior Software Engineer

About AltaMatic

AltaMatic (formerly AltaPro AI) builds custom operational software that helps established businesses replace manual processes and disconnected tools with integrated systems.

Based in Edmonton, we work with businesses across Western Canada in construction, trades, manufacturing, logistics, property management and equipment repair. Our projects include quoting and estimating tools, custom CRMs, scheduling and dispatch workflows, document systems, portals, and integrations with existing business software.

We also build practical AI solutions for tasks such as data extraction and drafting, with human oversight where it matters. Our focus is software that solves real operational problems and is useful in day-to-day work.

The role

We’re looking for a Junior Software Engineer Intern to join our team full-time and on-site at our downtown Edmonton office. You’ll help build, test and maintain custom web applications and internal tools for clients across a range of industries.

You’ll work with our engineering team to understand client workflows, turn requirements into technical tasks and contribute to software used in real business operations. This role is a chance to apply what you’ve learned while continuing to develop your skills through hands-on work and code reviews.

What you’ll do

  • Help develop and maintain web applications and internal tools.
  • Contribute to back-end features, APIs, databases and third-party integrations.
  • Investigate and fix bugs, test changes and help support deployments.
  • Write clear, maintainable code and documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with senior engineers on technical decisions.
  • Work with project stakeholders to understand business requirements and client workflows.
  • Improve existing applications based on testing and user feedback.

What we’re looking for

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary computer science or software engineering program.
  • Practical programming experience shown through personal projects, coursework, internships, work experience or other hands-on projects.
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language used for web applications.
  • Foundational understanding of software design, data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience or coursework involving back-end development, APIs, databases or integrations.
  • Familiarity with Git, testing and debugging.
  • Ability to break down problems, communicate clearly and collaborate in a small team.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, technologies and client industries.

Experience with cloud services, web technologies or AI-assisted development tools is an asset, but not required.

Additionally, please send any relevant past projects, or work that you feel exemplifies why you would be a good candidate for our team to hello@altaproai.ca. Applicants that are not located in Edmonton will not be interviewed.

Location: Downtown Edmonton, Alberta. This is an on-site role.

Schedule: (Part Time Winter 2027). (Full Time Summer 2027)

Proposed start date: January 4, 2027.
