Context of the project: The successful candidate will initially support two projects involving the design and supply of protection and control panels. One is for data center and the other if for Nuclear.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Review customer specifications and existing protection and control panel designs.
- Analyze and interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, and power diagrams.
- Discuss technical requirements, design changes, and engineering decisions directly with customers.
- Review drawings, provide detailed technical markups, and communicate revisions to the drafting team.
- Validate updated drawings and ensure customer-requested changes have been correctly implemented.
- Support the customer approval process through technical reviews and design revisions.
- Coordinate activities between customers, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and offshore drafting teams.
- Identify required components and support bill-of-material updates.
- Assist with adapting standard testing procedures to project-specific requirements.
- Escalate technical, drafting, or schedule-related risks as needed.
- Support future projects from specification review through design development and customer engagement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in protection and control panel design.
- Strong understanding of protection relays and their application within electrical protection and control systems.
- Ability to review and interpret schematic, wiring, control, single-line, and power diagrams.
- Experience creating clear and technically accurate drawing markups for drafting teams.
- Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to discuss technical topics confidently.
- Ability to work independently, review designs critically, and drive solutions to completion.
Assets:
- Experience with protection relays from various manufacturers.
- Experience in turnkey protection and control projects.
- Knowledge of relay testing practices, test equipment, and test procedure development.
- Familiarity with SCADA, substation automation, communications, metering, and system integration.
- Knowledge of CSA, UL 508, and other applicable panel design standards.
- Experience working with offshore engineering or drafting teams.
- Lean Six Sigma certification and/or P.Eng designation.
- Ability to travel within North America when required.

In accordance with our compensation practices, ALTEN is providing the salary range associated with this opportunity. Final compensation will be determined after considering several factors, including professional experience, skill set, educational background, certifications, and geographic market conditions. The current target salary range for this role is $100,000 – $110,000 per year.
