Original job description

BRING BALANCE TO THE BOOKS - AND YOUR CAREER.

This is a temporary position with an estimated end date of June 2027.

The Opportunity

Some people dread the thought of paying bills or balancing their cheque book. Not you. In fact, you’ll admit you get a bit of a thrill from making the numbers line up. You’re in your element when solving problems and keeping the big picture in mind, but you never lose sight of the details. And we like that about you.

We’re looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Technician to join our Finance team. In this role, you’ll keep our financial records accurate and complete, while providing outstanding service to both internal and external clients. From reconciling accounts to preparing reports, you’ll be the accounting action hero who saves the day with your eagle-eye precision.

A Place to Belong

AMA is committed to an inclusive, respectful, and accessible environment for all. If you require accommodation at any point during the hiring process, we’re here to support you. Please reach out to recruitment@ama.ab.ca and let us know how we can help.

AMA is more than a workplace; it’s a family. Together, we help protect the things that matter most to our more than one-million members - everything from roadside safety to retail savings, food security to childhood well-being. And with operations that span automotive, registries, travel, insurance and more, the opportunities to grow with us are almost limitless!

Building on a century of proud service in Alberta communities, we’re passionate about making a meaningful difference in the places where we live and work. And that all begins with our people. As part of the AMA team, you’ll enjoy:

Work for one of the most trusted brands in Canada.
Competitive wage.
Benefits if you choose to receive them (with payroll deductions).
Vacation pay is added to each paycheque.
Great AMA discounts.
Unlimited learning opportunities!

Who You Are

A self-starter who enjoys working independently but thrives as part of a fast-paced, dynamic team.
Someone who takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
A professional with integrity and a strong work ethic.
You have an unmatched attention to detail.
Quick to adapt to new systems, including Workday and Excel skills.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Join a team of skilled Technicians reporting to the Finance Supervisor.
All accounts receivable duties such as issuing invoices, sending statements, and applying payments on account.
Process funds transfer from multiple sources to appropriate invoices.
Monitor and issue corporate credit card inventory levels.
Cash drawer management to help finance team collect money owed.
Prepare weekly and monthly consolidated reports for the association.
Provide service to members, internal staff, customers, and management.
Review, create and monitor Customer setups.
Help with the weekly Pay-run Cheque printing.
Review, deposit and apply weekly cheques.
Work closely with team members on ad hoc and pending projects.
Keep records organized and accurate.
Mail distribution for Finance.

A post-secondary certificate or diploma in accounting or business (or working toward completion).
Minimum two years of accounting experience.
Proficiency with computerized accounting systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Effective time-management skills to meet deadlines while delivering accurate results.
