Actuarial Analyst, Reserving & Forecasting

The Opportunity

Are you an actuarial professional who enjoys digging into data, identifying emerging trends and turning complex analysis into meaningful business insight?

AMA Insurance is looking for an Actuarial Analyst, Reserving & Forecasting to support some of the most important financial decisions within our insurance business. Reporting to the Supervisor, Business Analysis, you’ll conduct reserving analysis across our auto and property lines, contribute to financial forecasting and capital planning, and support our annual reinsurance cycle.

This role goes beyond producing numbers. You’ll work with data from a variety of sources, apply actuarial assumptions and methodologies, identify emerging claims trends, and translate your findings into recommendations that help leaders understand risk and make informed decisions.

You’ll also collaborate with teams across AMA Insurance, Finance, Risk and Underwriting, giving you the opportunity to see how actuarial analysis connects to the broader business.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Conduct reserving analysis for AMA’s auto and property insurance lines and develop IBNR recommendations for leadership.
Gather, process, cleanse and validate data used in actuarial analysis.
Update quarterly diagnostic and actual-versus-expected analyses, identifying anomalies and emerging trends.
Apply sound actuarial assumptions and methodologies when developing ultimate selections, documenting changes and presenting recommendations to leadership.
Conduct detailed loss-trend analysis to identify emerging claims patterns and provide insights that can support pricing, product development and rate-making strategies.
Support AMA’s annual budgeting process by developing claim-cost and revenue forecasts.
Contribute to organizational capital planning by analyzing risk-based capital requirements and developing long-term financial stability projections.
Support the annual reinsurance renewal cycle, including preparation of policy-in-force data, subject premium forecasts and responses to requests from leadership and reinsurers.
Conduct reinsurance and catastrophe exposure analysis, including modelling related to severe convective storms, wildfire risk and catastrophe program limit adequacy.
Perform scenario modelling and stress testing to help leadership understand potential catastrophe impacts, premium-growth sensitivity and capital adequacy.
Create predictive models that support performance and productivity improvements.
Monitor and analyze CareFirst program performance and provide regular reporting against organizational targets.
Partner with stakeholders across the organization to transform data into meaningful analytics and business insights.

What You Bring to the Table

A degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field.
Successful completion of all preliminary actuarial exams, all VEE credits, and Exam 5 from CAS.
At least 2 years of hands-on actuarial experience within the property and casualty insurance industry.
A strong background in reserving and capital planning.
Reinsurance experience is an asset.
Advanced working knowledge of SQL and databases, including the ability to write complex SQL statements to build data tables and produce reports.
Experience working with tools such as Excel, Power BI, GuideWire, Access, SQL, Arius, Python, R, Emblem and SAS.
Working knowledge of reserving methodologies, current business trends and the regulatory environment, including Alberta-specific frameworks and OSFI E-21.
Strong research, analytical, organizational and critical-thinking skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the property and casualty insurance business.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
