WORKPLACE ADVISOR

(FRENCH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY REQUIRED)

(Reporting to the Director, Labour Relations Services)

Position Status: Vacant

Full-time, permanent effective immediately

Classification Salary Level III - $92,534 - $119,574 (Effective January 1, 2026)

This position will provide initial advice, guidance and advocacy to AMAPCEO members and AMAPCEO Workplace Representatives on collective agreement terms and conditions of employment, and dispute resolution processes.

It will assist AMAPCEO in delivering dispute resolution and member representation and advocacy services to its members; support Dispute Resolution Officers (DROs), and other assigned staff, with member work-related problems, complaints and disputes; and assist in activist education and training, and support joint Employer-AMAPCEO committees.

This position requires working proficiency in French to serve members who prefer to communicate in French.

Working with minimum supervision and high daily functional independence, the incumbent:

1. Member Advice and Representation

Provides information, guidance, advice, and advocacy to members and Workplace Representatives on collective agreement rights and entitlements, terms and conditions of employment, and specific workplace issues and disputes.

Responds to requests from French-speaking members, including those working in Quebec, conducting intake conversations and preparing written communications in French.

2. Dispute Resolution Support

Supports a team of Dispute Resolution Officers by reviewing informal and formal disputes and other workplace issues, and analysing relevant labour and employment law, Grievance Settlement Board caselaw, and other labour tribunal jurisprudence.

Assists Workplace Representatives and members with the AMAPCEO electronic workplace issue and dispute tracking tool (RADAR).

3. Education, Training, and Activist Support

Assists in the education and training of Workplace Representatives and other activists on collective agreement rights, terms and conditions of employment, and dispute resolution processes, including providing subject matter expertise during curriculum development.

Supports the Workplace Representatives Mentorship Program as subject matter expert and primary contact for mentors and mentees.

4. Committee and Labour Relations Support

Provides assistance and support to Employer Relations Committees (ERCs) and other joint § Employer-AMAPCEO bodies, as requested.

Provides staff support to internal AMAPCEO committees, as assigned.

Supports other labour relations initiatives and projects, including using virtual and hybrid meeting tools to engage members and Workplace Representatives across the province.

Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with this job specification or as mutually agreed between the incumbent and their supervisor(s).

Candidates should possess:

A post-secondary degree preferably in Labour Relations or a related field of study and / or at least 3-5 years of related experience, preferably in a unionized or non-profit environment;
Working proficiency in French (spoken and written), sufficient to respond independently to routine member inquiries and correspondence, conduct member intake conversations, and prepare written communications in French;
Knowledge of collective agreement(s), and other agreements and related documents, between AMAPCEO and the employer(s); Knowledge of the Ontario Public Service, HARLO units, and the employer’s organizational and employment-related decision-making structures;
Knowledge of relevant federal and provincial labour relations and employment statutes and regulations;
Relevant experience working in the field of labour relations, specifically in the areas of dispute resolution and/or grievance handling; Experience interpreting/administering collective agreements and human resource policies and practices, and employment/ labour law and caselaw;
Experience in presenting information and leading or facilitating education and training initiatives;
Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, including listening, counselling, advocating, negotiating grievance settlements, advising and conflict resolution, situation-appropriate assertiveness and functioning in a team and/or committee environment;
Highly developed collaborative, consultative skills, with a respectful and thoughtful approach and style and the ability to work with volunteer officers and committees;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to prepare accurate, timely and comprehensive reports; Ability to research, analyze and synthesize both qualitative and quantitative information clearly and concisely;
Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and diplomacy while maintaining strict confidentiality, and to work effectively in a consultative and collaborative environment;
Excellent organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to prioritize work with competing interests to ensure deadlines are met; to work independently and flexibly in a busy, small team environment; and to be effective, efficient, co-operative and flexible in a small, collegial, fast-paced, multi-issue office with a mix of elected officials, volunteers, and professional staff;
Ability to use PC / networked computer sufficient to manipulate database information, produce own correspondence, analyses, and reports with text and numeric elements, and perform Internet searches.

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel and work outside normal working hours may be required.
