Original job description

Are you ready to write code that impacts millions of people? As a Software Development Engineer at Amazon, you will build software that solves real problems at remarkable scale. You will work alongside talented engineers who care deeply about quality, simplicity, and delivering the right solutions for customers.

This role is ideal for someone early in their engineering career who is eager to learn, collaborate, and grow. You will contribute to the full software development lifecycle - from design and implementation to testing, deployment, and operations - while developing your technical skills in a supportive, fast-paced environment. If you are curious, adaptable, and excited to see your code running in production, we want to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, well-tested code that goes to production, following best practices for logical structure, maintainability, and simplicity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to design, build, test, deploy, and maintain software components and features.
- Use appropriate data structures and algorithms to solve problems, making thoughtful trade-offs between factors such as performance, readability, and cost.
- Leverage generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools where appropriate to augment productivity and code quality, while evaluating outputs critically.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software failures and operational issues, participating actively in your team's operational support and root-cause analysis.

A day in the life
You will start your day reviewing code from teammates and picking up well-scoped tasks from your team's backlog. You might spend the morning writing and testing a new feature, then join a design discussion where you ask questions and share ideas with more experienced engineers. Afternoons could involve debugging an operational issue, pairing with a colleague on a tricky integration, or refining documentation. Regular check-ins keep you aligned with your team and give you opportunities to get feedback early.

About the team
Our team builds software that matters to Amazon's customers. We value collaboration, continuous learning, and writing clean code that others can maintain and extend. Whether you are refactoring an existing component or shipping something new, your contributions have a direct impact on the customer experience.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where engineers at every stage of their career can thrive. You will have opportunities to learn from experienced peers, mentor new team members over time, and help shape how we build and operate our systems. Basic Qualifications: - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred Qualifications: - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.

Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. If you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit https://amazon.jobs/content/en/how-we-hire/accommodations for more information. If the country/region you’re applying in isn’t listed, please contact your Recruiting Partner.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, basic life & AD&D insurance), Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP), Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP), paid time off, and other resources to improve health and well-being. We thank all applicants for their interest, however only those interviewed will be advised as to hiring status.
