Original job description

As part of the Amazon-wide Amzonian Leadership Experiences team, the Senior Leadership team’s mission is to build workforce planning application suite. We develop philosophies, mechanisms and products that guide leaders to inspect and make data-driven decisions to improve their organizational operating models, and plans to guide their outlook year for workforce composition. A successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development and launch of a variety of core product features, designing the system architecture, and promoting code quality and best practices. You are passionate about the customer experience, take pride in building high quality software, and have a demonstrable track record of successfully delivering new features and products. You value collaboration, making data-driven decisions, and can comfortably communicate with others, in both technical and non-technical roles.

Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-life balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.

Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship.

Key job responsibilities
- Proficiency in Java or any other object oriented programming is required, and the ideal candidate is an expert in at least one of these languages.
- Highly-motivated and thrive in an environment where problems are open-ended.
- Enjoy engaging in passionate discussions with smart people and letting the best ideas rise to the top.
- Work closely with senior engineers, UX designers and product managers to develop friendly UI experiences.
- Work closely with engineers to architect and develop the best technical design.
- Develop/maintain operational rigor for the rigor of a fast-growing Amazon Search stack.
- Help with hiring and mentoring.
- Take user-facing features from design to implementation, coding both the UI and backend functionality.
- Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
- You will have a lot of freedom and diversity in the technologies we use.
- Team is fast paced - like a startup.

A day in the life
- Focus on building, not operating - As we look to reimagine the workforce planning experience, we are beginning from a clean slate. No tech debt, no legacy code, Just clearly defined goals and S-Team support. We focus on building things, not operating.
- We use the entire AWS Stack - This is exciting. We leverage the latest and best from the AWS stack to realize our vision of building a seamless experience.
- Work hard, Make a difference - We have fun along the way. As much as we like to connect for our work meetings, we also connect regularly to have meet & greets. Basic Qualifications: - 8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
