About the Role: The Junior Property Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in Vancouver, BC. This role is responsible for supporting the preparation and maintenance of property-level financial records, including assisting with monthly closes, reconciliations, and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate assets, spanning residential and hospitality. Day-to-day tasks include posting journal entries, reviewing and coding invoices, updating tenant and vendor accounts, and ensuring accurate recording of revenues and expenses. The Junior Property Accountant will collaborate with senior accounting team members and property management staff, respond to accounting-related inquiries, and help maintain compliance with internal controls and reporting timelines.
Job Description:
- Full cycle A/R A/P, payroll and month-end accounting/reporting;
- Prepare weekly, monthly and year-end journal entries, adjustments, accruals and financial statements for the properties;
- Review financial aspects of leases;
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets;
- Review A/R on a monthly/bi-monthly basis and work with property managers to reconcile tenant accounts;
- Prepare A/P with supporting documents for approval;
- Prepare monthly bank, inter-company and Rent Roll reconciliations for external review;
- Prepare electronic funds transfers;
- Submit monthly/quarterly/yearly remittances of WCB, Payroll Tax, GST and Corp Tax;
- Effectively communicate financial information to the Owners, Managing Directors, Property Managers, and Leasing Agents;
- Prepare year-end financial package for audit review and liaison between Management and External Auditor
- Provide financial and analytical assistance to Managers; and
- Perform additional projects/assignments as needed.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Accounting and Finance, with the ability to apply core principles in a property accounting environment.
- Experience preparing and reviewing Financial Statements and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting.
- Practical skills in Journal Entries (Accounting), including accruals, adjustments, and reconciliations.
- Knowledge of Financial Reporting processes, including month-end close and variance analysis.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; progress toward a professional accounting designation is an asset.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000 per year.
