Project Accountant
About AMC
AMC Project Management develops and manages commercial and residential construction projects across British Columbia, overseeing procurement, contracts, cost reporting, and project delivery.
We have significant growth plans over the next few years, and we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us and help shape how our business operates.
About the role
This is an opportunity for an ambitious accountant to take ownership of AMC's day-to-day accounting and project financials while helping build a more efficient, scalable finance function.
You'll manage full-cycle bookkeeping in QuickBooks and project accounting across multiple construction projects, using JobTread to track budgets, costs, commitments, and profitability. You'll work directly with the Principal and Project Managers, providing the financial information they need to make sound commercial decisions.
We're looking for someone who goes beyond processing transactions. You question how things work, spot opportunities to improve processes, and use technology, automation, and AI to eliminate unnecessary work.
As AMC grows, so will your responsibilities, with opportunities to take on greater ownership of financial reporting, systems, and the development of the accounting function.
What you'll do
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end processes.
- Own project accounting across multiple construction projects, tracking budgets, costs, commitments, change orders, and profitability.
- Review subcontractor and supplier invoices, purchase orders, progress payments, and statutory holdbacks.
- Prepare project cost reports and provide financial insights to support project and business decisions.
- Support GST/PST filings, payroll, WorkSafeBC remittances, and year-end preparation.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and processes using technology and automation.
- Work with the Principal to improve cash flow visibility, forecasting, and financial controls.
What we're looking for
- Ideally 2–5 years of relevant accounting or finance experience, ideally including construction or project-based accounting.
- A solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and project financials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with sound judgment and attention to detail.
- Commercial curiosity: you want to understand how projects make money, not just how transactions are recorded.
- Technological fluency and an interest in using software, automation, and AI to work smarter.
- The confidence to question existing practices and support your ideas with evidence.
- An entrepreneurial mindset, with a desire for autonomy, responsibility, and professional growth.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Experience with Bank of Montreal (BMO) banking systems is an asset.
Compensation and benefits
- Starting salary of $68,800 per year.
- Health Care Spending Account after three months.
- Opportunities for growth and increasing responsibility as AMC expands.
Location
This is a full-time, in-office position in Vancouver, BC. Applicants must currently reside in Vancouver. Relocation is NOT available.
