Ameresco has an immediate opening for a Senior Project Manager, ESPC. The Senior Project Manager, ESPC is a senior leadership role responsible for delivering complex energy performance and infrastructure modernization projects. The position serves as the single point of accountability for project execution, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and client requirements. The role combines project leadership, financial oversight, technical expertise, stakeholder management, and team development.
Overview:
The Senior Project Manager leads all phases of Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) projects, from project initiation and planning through construction, commissioning, turnover, and close-out. The individual coordinates multidisciplinary teams that may include engineers, consultants, subcontractors, commissioning specialists, and internal support personnel. Success requires balancing client expectations, technical requirements, commercial objectives, and operational performance.
In addition to delivering projects, the position plays a strategic role in maintaining customer relationships, managing risk, ensuring contractual compliance, and supporting future business opportunities through successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities:
Project Leadership and Execution
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for planning and delivering projects from concept to completion. Key duties include:
- Developing project execution plans, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk management strategies.
- Leading project teams and coordinating all project stakeholders.
- Monitoring performance against safety, schedule, budget, and quality targets.
- Resolving issues and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and lessons-learned reviews.
A primary expectation is the successful delivery of complex ESPC projects while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
Client and Stakeholder Management
The position serves as the principal client contact throughout project execution. Responsibilities include:
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, utilities, regulators, and internal stakeholders.
- Leading project meetings, presentations, and executive briefings.
- Managing customer expectations and resolving concerns professionally.
- Supporting long-term business growth through effective client engagement.
Strong communication and relationship management skills are critical to success.
Financial and Commercial Management
The Senior Project Manager has significant responsibility for project financial performance, including:
- Budget development and forecasting.
- Cash flow and revenue management.

- Managing change orders, contract modifications, and commercial risks.
- Approving project expenditures and preparing executive financial reports.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or equivalent experience.
- At least 8 years of progressively responsible project management, engineering, construction, or energy services experience.
- At least 5 years leading complex infrastructure or facility projects.
- Demonstrated responsibility for budgets, schedules, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Experience with procurement, contract administration, and subcontract management.
- Ability to travel and obtain Government of Canada Reliability Status clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional designations such as P.Eng., PMP, or Gold Seal.
- Experience with Government of Canada, DND, PSPC, CSC, or other public-sector projects.
- Knowledge of Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), ESCO, Design-Build, or Integrated Project Delivery.
- Familiarity with Measurement & Verification (M&V) principles.
- Experience with ISO management systems and safety certifications.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI, and related software.
