The Project Controls Manager provides a support function to the Project Manager and the project team. They are responsible for the project schedule and document control for the project. They must also take-off project quantities, provide resource allocation, and provide cost analysis for an ongoing project schedule. They work closely with the Construction Managers and reports to the Project Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee cost management activities, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial reporting.
- Ensure robust cost controls are implemented across the project team.
- Monitor project performance against financial targets, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
- Manage contract-related matters for prime contracts, subcontracts, and supplier agreements and ensure project teams understand obligations, rights, and potential risks.
- Ensure commercial correspondence, notices, and documentation meet contractual requirements.
- Conduct commercial risk assessments and maintain risk registers.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, value engineering, and commercial optimization.
- Support procurement planning and tendering strategies for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Subcontract negotiation, execution, and administration to ensure compliance and commercial performance.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience as a Project Cost Controller/Lead
- Post-secondary diploma or degree (project management, finance or business preferred);
- PMP Designation preferred or pursuing;
- Project Management experience on large multidisciplinary projects;
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Outlook;
- Highly advanced in Financial ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion with advanced skills Microsoft Excel, Primavera 6 (P6) and Cost Estimating software;
- Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change;
- Ability to work on several projects or tasks concurrently, manage time, organize, and set priorities;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills, as the role requires continuous interaction with team members;
- Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, including report writing, editing, and proofreading abilities;
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills are a must
