The Engineer - Continuous Improvement supports site efforts to maintain the Anatolia operating structure. They apply continuous improvement principles and practices to improve products, processes, quality, efficiency, safety, and reduce waste. Responsibilities may include collaborating with management to develop project objectives, facilitating teams, coordinating the implementation of project solutions, and tracking/reporting results.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Maintains a technical awareness of departmental operations and building systems and structure
- Works with department leaders and stakeholders to identify opportunities for improving processes and systems including identifying potential risks then developing mitigation strategies and implementing corrective action plans
- Creates a detailed project plan for proposal including inputs and resources, phases and milestones, timelines and outputs, and measurables from baselines to expected outcomes
- Studies identified requirements, creates process flowcharts and compiles and analyzes data to track process improvement
- Oversees in-process monitoring and testing of improvement projects to identify process gaps and implement solutions accordingly, and confirm successes
- Facilitates training and support for the affected team as necessary
- Tracks and manages project objectives, timelines, budgets, and key deliverables
- Prepares a detailed performance analysis for completed projects
- Works closely with warehouse Operations team, SAP consultants and technical teams to ensure configuration or ABAP developments for warehouse automation system are executed in a timely manner and with desired outcomes (productivity, quality, etc.)
- Collaborates with stakeholders in the design, testing, implementation, refinement, and end user training of SAP and specialized applications
- Reviews the robotic automation and Warehouse Management System (WMS) performance daily
- Monitors data transfer from SAP to SDM (automation system)
- Reviews and troubleshoots error messages sent from SDM to SAP
- Reviews and troubleshoots robotic automation system errors
- Contacts the vendor help desk in case of the system does not work as designed according to the intended flow when other support is not available
- Provides backup coverage for various roles as needed
- Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably industrial, electrical, electromechanical or mechanical) or related field is a must.
- Experience in the warehousing industry at a large-scale, multi-site distributor, or a logistics service provider is preferred
- 2 to 3 years of recent experience related to the customization, implementation, modification and maintenance of automated equipment and processes is required
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing internal and external stakeholder relations including collaborations that mobilize, coach, and drive accountability with peers and other functional leaders through influence
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; proactive nature and willingness to challenge existing processes and propose improvements
- Proficiency with computer applications including WMS, EWM and MS365/Office is required; experience with SAP EWM would be an asset
- Proficiency with root cause analysis methodology to identify causes of failure then implement robust corrective actions that prevent recurrence
- Working knowledge of project management methodology; PMP certification would be an asset
- Demonstrated experience with LEAN manufacturing initiatives would be an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Most work is performed in a standard office environment with limited exposure to adverse conditions or health and safety risks
- Position requires low level of sustained visual attention, moderate manual dexterity on a regular basis, and sitting at length but with the ability to alter posture and position as desired
- Occasionally, work is performed in a warehouse environment with exposure to: (a) fluctuating heat and cold temperatures; (b) some noise associated with forklifts and other power equipment; (c) some electrical hazards; (d) WHMIS chemicals; and (e) walking aisles that are shared with vehicles like forklifts as well as moving around other materials and structures.
- PPE safety equipment must be worn and precautions exercised.
