Job Title: French-English Translator

Position Summary
The French-English Translator is responsible for translating, reviewing, and adapting company communications and materials between English and French, ensuring accuracy, consistency, clarity, and appropriate localization for Canadian audiences.
This role partners with internal teams to support the translation of marketing materials, corporate communications, training resources, digital content, presentations, and other business-related materials. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, possesses excellent written communication skills in both English and French, and has a strong understanding of linguistic and cultural nuances relevant to the Canadian market.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate written materials from English to French and French to English, maintaining the original meaning, tone, style, and intent.
- Review, proofread, and edit translated content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, terminology, accuracy, and overall readability.
- Adapt and localize content appropriately for French-speaking Canadian audiences, considering cultural and regional language differences.
- Translate a variety of materials, including marketing communications, presentations, training materials, internal communications, product-related content, digital content, and other business documents.
- Maintain consistency in company terminology, brand voice, messaging, and style across translated materials.
- Maintain and update translation glossaries, terminology databases, style guides, and other language resources.
- Collaborate with Marketing and other internal departments to clarify terminology, context, and translation requirements.
- Support the review and quality assurance of French-language materials prior to publication or distribution.
- Manage multiple translation requests and priorities while meeting established deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality when working with internal or sensitive company information.
- Stay current on French-Canadian language conventions, terminology, and translation best practices.
- Perform other translation, proofreading, and language-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, Languages, or a related field preferred.
- 2+ years of professional translation, localization, proofreading, or related bilingual communications experience preferred.
- Professional experience translating between English and French.
- Experience translating marketing, corporate, consumer-facing, or digital content is preferred.
- Experience working within a corporate environment or supporting multiple internal stakeholders is a plus.
Skills & Qualifications
- Native or near-native proficiency in French, with excellent professional proficiency in English.
- Exceptional writing, grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills in both French and English.
- Strong understanding of Canadian French terminology, language conventions, and cultural nuances.
- Ability to accurately convey meaning, tone, and intent rather than relying on literal translation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and consistency.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity with translation software, terminology databases, translation memory tools, or similar technologies is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard business applications.
