AI Developer – Actuarial Tools & Automation (PathWise)
Role Type: New position
As an AI Developer – Actuarial Tools & Automation (PathWise) within Aon Life Solutions, you will help design, develop, and deliver innovative Generative AI solutions that support actuarial modelling and business decision‑making. Working closely with actuaries, product managers, and technology professionals, you will bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation - translating actuarial use cases into practical AI tools and automated workflows built on Aon’s high‑performance PathWise actuarial modelling platform.
You will spend much of your time building Python‑based AI solutions, while also engaging with actuarial modellers and other partners to understand requirements, shape use cases, and support testing, deployment, and adoption of the tools you help create.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada. This role is not eligible for sponsorship, and we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa or work permit.
The salary range for this position is {CAD $96,425 - CAD 125,400}. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

What the day will look like
AI Agents, Prototyping & Development
- Design, develop, and test GenAI‑powered solutions in Python to support PathWise model design, build, testing, and documentation activities.
- Contribute to the implementation of RAG‑based solutions, including document ingestion, chunking, embeddings, retrieval strategies, and prompt development.
- Build, refine, and evaluate prompts, tools, and workflows to improve the effectiveness and usability of AI applications for actuarial modellers.
- Help turn successful AI prototypes into reliable, production‑ready tools and automation, in close collaboration with core development and infrastructure teams.
- Support testing activities by measuring solution performance, identifying areas for improvement, and documenting findings.
- Evaluate AI solutions for accuracy, reliability, security, and responsible use, calling out issues and recommendations to senior team members as needed.
Business Analysis & Actuarial Partnering
- Collaborate with actuaries and other business partners to gain insight into modelling workflows, problems, and AI opportunities across the PathWise ecosystem.
- Help translate actuarial and business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications for AI tools and automation.
- Participate in discovery sessions, backlog refinement, and design discussions to prioritise impactful use cases and shape solution scope.
- Contribute to user‑centric design by gathering feedback, refining requirements, and iterating on features based on feedback from PathWise users.
- Provide support through documentation, demos, and training to help actuaries and other users become comfortable with new AI capabilities.
Governance, Safety & Best Practices
- Follow established AI governance, security, and compliance standards.
- Assist in implementing monitoring, evaluation, and observability practices for AI solutions, with an appreciation of actuarial model governance needs.
- Ensure responsible use of AI technologies and proper documentation of models, data flows, and workflows.
Collaboration
- Partner with actuaries, PathWise users, product managers, and development teams to deliver innovative AI solutions that enhance actuarial modelling and analysis.
- Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, design discussions, testing, and code reviews.
- Share knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team, including mentoring less expert colleagues on AI tools and standard methodologies where appropriate.

In this role, you will work alongside experienced actuarial, product, and technology professionals to build and enhance Generative AI solutions that improve modelling, testing, documentation, and knowledge discovery. Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in Python software development, including experience working with AI, machine learning, or Generative AI technologies.
- Experience working with LLMs and GenAI frameworks such as LangChain, Semantic Kernel, OpenAI APIs, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with RAG architectures, vector databases, embeddings, and prompt engineering concepts.
- Experience developing REST APIs and integrating external tools and services.
- Understanding of software development guidelines, including testing, version control, and CI/CD processes.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Azure and modern development tools.
- Experience working within Agile project frameworks.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work optimally with both technical and non‑technical partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to actuarial, insurance, financial services, or quantitative modelling environments, with an interest in actuarial modelling workflows.
- Experience partnering with business or actuarial collaborators to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Experience with Azure AI Services, Azure OpenAI, or other cloud‑based AI platforms.
- Familiarity with MLOps or LLMOps concepts and tooling.
- Interest in learning about insurance, actuarial modelling, and financial risk management.
