DevOps Engineer (Python, Azure, Kubernetes, CI/CD)

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)

Duration: 6 month rolling Contract

About The Role

Apex Systems is seeking a highly motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to support a leading Canadian financial institution's Digital Banking organization. This role will focus on managing and enhancing deployment pipelines, automation initiatives, and cloud-native application delivery supporting key digital banking applications, including online banking, live chat, callback services, scheduling platforms, and open banking solutions.

The ideal candidate will bring strong automation and scripting expertise, a self-starter mentality, and hands-on experience with modern CI/CD tooling and cloud technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building solutions, optimizing deployment processes, and working independently in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting digital banking applications.
Build and enhance automation solutions using Python scripting.
Develop and manage deployment workflows utilizing GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps.
Support containerized applications running on Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application teams to streamline deployment processes and improve operational efficiency.
Troubleshoot pipeline failures, deployment issues, and environment-related challenges.
Manage and maintain Jenkins pipelines during the transition to GitHub Actions.
Build deployment configurations and support application releases using Helm and Kubernetes technologies.
Participate in code reviews and automation initiatives that improve scalability and reliability.
Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across DevOps practices, tooling, and deployment standards.
Work independently to deliver technical solutions with minimal supervision while escalating issues appropriately when required.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, or a related role.
Strong proficiency in Python scripting and automation .
Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions .
Experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines .
Strong experience with Kubernetes and/or Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) .
Experience working within Microsoft Azure environments.
Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps .
Experience supporting and maintaining Jenkins pipelines.
Strong understanding of software delivery lifecycles and DevOps best practices.
Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and quickly learn new technologies and business processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with OpenShift.
Experience with Docker and containerization technologies.
Familiarity with Jira and Agile delivery methodologies.
Cloud, Kubernetes, Azure, or DevOps-related certifications.
Previous experience within banking, financial services, or highly regulated environments.
Experience building deployment automation for large-scale enterprise applications.

Work Environment

Hybrid Schedule:

In office every Wednesday
In office on the third Friday of each month
Remote all other days

Location Requirement:

Candidates must reside within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Interview Process

Virtual technical interview with the hiring manager and team members.
In-person final interview at the downtown Toronto office (typically scheduled on a Wednesday).

Apex pay scales are determined by role, experience, skill set, and location. For this new position, the estimated hourly range is provided below as a guideline; however, total compensation may vary based on individual circumstances.

Hourly Range: $40.00/hr.-$50.00/hr.
