Job Overview

Apex Systems is seeking a Senior GCP Consultant to join a leading financial services organization in Toronto. This role acts as the intermediate layer between cloud services, infrastructure, security, governance and business stakeholders in relation to Google Cloud Platform. The organization has recently onboarded GCP for AI/ML capabilities, including Vertex AI and Gemini, and is moving from a sandbox environment to production, so the consultant will serve as the GCP subject matter expert and application support resource, close the communication gap between technical and business teams in the orchestration process, and build out the diagrams and documentation that support user onboarding. This is a consultative, advisory and coordination role rather than an architecture or development role, so deep GCP knowledge and strong stakeholder communication are essential, but hands-on coding and architecture design are not expected. The ability to take charge from the first day and work independently is critical.

Responsibilities

GCP Advisory and Stakeholder Coordination

  • Act as the GCP subject matter expert and connector between cloud services, infrastructure, security, governance and business stakeholders
  • Bridge the communication gap between technical and business teams in the orchestration process and provide guidance on GCP related initiatives
  • Work with cloud engineering, security, platform operations, development, data engineering and vendor teams
  • Take ownership from day one and drive work forward independently

Production Readiness and User Onboarding

  • Support the move of GCP from sandbox to a production environment across development, test and production
  • Build out the diagrams and documentation used to onboard users onto the platform
  • Provide application support guidance across GCP services

AI/ML, Platform and Security Guidance

  • Guide teams adopting Vertex AI, Gemini and Model Garden, including MLOps and AI governance considerations
  • Advise on APIs, microservices, Kubernetes (GKE) and serverless technologies such as Cloud Run
  • Advise on IAM and cloud security, and help ensure solutions align with enterprise security, regulatory and governance standards
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments and security discussions

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud architecture, solution architecture, platform engineering, technical consulting or enterprise technology delivery
  • Hands-on expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with broad knowledge of GCP services and IAM; Azure or AWS experience alone is not sufficient
  • Experience with APIs, microservices, Kubernetes (GKE), Cloud Run and serverless technologies
  • Knowledge of Vertex AI, Gemini and Model Garden, and of MLOps
  • Knowledge of BigQuery and data platforms, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), DevSecOps and CI/CD, and observability
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry such as banking, financial services, insurance, healthcare or government
  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups and lead technical initiatives
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and business teams
  • Strong ownership mindset, with the ability to take charge from day one and work independently
  • Python, Go and Java development experience is not required

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Application and solution architecture, cloud-native design patterns, and enterprise integration and data architecture experience (an asset, not a requirement)
  • Working knowledge of Python, Java, Go, containers and modern software engineering practices
  • Experience mentoring technical teams and writing executive-level recommendations
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
  • Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect certification
  • Additional certifications in Cloud, AI/ML, Security, Architecture, Kubernetes or Agile delivery
