Apex Systems is a global IT services provider, and our consulting practice has an opening for a Microservices/AI Designer with deep Java/Spring Boot, microservices, and enterprise application design experience to support a Top Five Bank.

Client: Big 5 Bank

Location: Hybrid; 1- 2 days a week in Toronto

Terms: 6 Month Contract to Hire

Hours: 37.5 hours/week Monday-Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Job Description

Apex Systems is looking for a Microservices/AI Designer to help design modern enterprise applications across both back-end and front-end architecture. This role requires deep Java and microservices expertise, along with the ability to design front-end solutions and understand how AI capabilities can be incorporated into enterprise applications and workflows. The successful candidate will define end-to-end application architecture, make key technical design decisions, and provide direction to development teams.

• Design scalable enterprise applications across back-end services, APIs, integrations, and front-end layers.
• Lead the design of Java/Spring Boot microservices and service-to-service communication.
• Define front-end architecture, application structure, integration patterns, and interactions with back-end APIs.
• Establish API-first design principles and reusable integration patterns.
• Design event-driven solutions using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
• Make architectural decisions related to scalability, resiliency, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Provide technical direction to developers and review solution designs.
• Work with architecture, engineering, product, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Identify opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into applications, APIs, and business workflows.
• Design solutions that support containerized and cloud-native deployment models.
• Incorporate authentication, authorization, API security, observability, logging, monitoring, and automated testing into application designs.
• Support CI/CD and modern software engineering practices.
• Required Skills & Experience
• Deep experience with Java/Spring Boot architecture and back-end microservices design.
• Ability to design end-to-end solutions across front-end applications, APIs, microservices, and integrations.
• Experience with REST APIs, Kafka or other event-driven architectures, and API security within microservices-based applications.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud-native environments.
• Strong understanding of scalability, resiliency, performance, logging, and monitoring.
• Experience providing technical design guidance to development teams.
• Understanding of AI and Generative AI, including the integration of AI and large language models into applications, APIs, and workflows.
• Banking experience or a strong understanding of financial applications.
