Senior Data Architect

About The Role
- Apex Systems is seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of a modern enterprise data platform supporting contact center analytics, workforce management, and operational reporting. This role will be responsible for architecting end-to-end data solutions that ingest data from Genesys A3S Snowflake environments, Verint workforce management platforms, and other enterprise sources into a scalable Databricks Lakehouse architecture leveraging Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers.
- The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in dimensional modeling, Databricks, SQL, and large-scale data integration, with a proven ability to design highly resilient, auditable, and performance-optimized data platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Strategy
- Design and implement enterprise-scale data architectures utilizing Medallion (Bronze, Silver, Gold) patterns.
- Define data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting strategies across multiple source systems.
- Architect a Kimball-based dimensional reporting layer including fact and dimension models.
- Establish scalable standards for data governance, integrity, lineage, and auditing.
- Document technical decisions, architecture patterns, and trade-offs for technical and business stakeholders.
Data Platform Development
- Design ingestion frameworks for:
- Genesys A3S Snowflake data sources
- Verint workforce management feeds
- REST APIs
- SFTP and flat-file integrations
- Develop strategies for incremental loading, watermarking, change tracking, and idempotent processing.
- Define data freshness requirements and ingestion cadences across source systems.
- Design solutions that support both operational and analytical workloads.
Databricks & Lakehouse Leadership
- Lead architecture and design of Databricks and Delta Lake environments.
- Build scalable Bronze, Silver, and Gold transformation frameworks.
- Optimize performance through:
- Cluster sizing strategies
- Photon optimization
- Delta Lake maintenance
- Partitioning strategies
- Z-ordering
- Cost optimization techniques
- Establish best practices for workload orchestration and monitoring.
Data Quality & Governance
- Design and implement validation frameworks including:
- Row count reconciliation
- Checksum validation
- Referential integrity enforcement
- Duplicate detection
- Late-arriving data management
- Define controls for schema drift detection and upstream vendor changes.
- Create audit frameworks that support operational transparency and compliance requirements.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner closely with engineering teams, analytics teams, business stakeholders, and third-party vendors.
- Support parallel-run migration activities between legacy and future-state platforms.
- Guide development teams on architecture standards and implementation approaches.
- Act as the subject matter expert for enterprise data architecture initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Data Architecture & Modeling
- 10+ years of experience designing enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse solutions.
- Deep expertise in:
- Kimball dimensional modeling
- Star schema design
- Fact and dimension modeling
- Grain definition
- Slowly Changing Dimensions (Type I and II)
- Strong experience designing Medallion data architectures.
Databricks & Delta Lake
- 5+ years of hands-on Databricks experience.
- Expert knowledge of:
- Delta Lake
- Delta Tables
- ACID transactions
- Optimize and Vacuum operations
- Medallion architecture implementation
- Performance tuning and workload optimization
SQL & Databases
- Expert-level proficiency in:
- T-SQL
- Spark SQL
- Query tuning
- Window functions
- Advanced joins
- Partitioning strategies
- Strong experience with SQL Server architecture and optimization.
- Deep understanding of OLTP versus OLAP design methodologies.
Data Integration & Engineering
- Experience designing and implementing large-scale data ingestion frameworks.
- Advanced knowledge of:
- REST APIs
- Pagination and rate limiting
- Asynchronous processing patterns
- High-volume data pipelines
- Incremental data loading
Programming & Cloud Technologies
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Python
- PySpark
- Azure Data Factory
- Databricks Workflows
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Azure Key Vault
- Experience with enterprise scheduling and orchestration tools.
Data Quality & Integrity
- Proven track record implementing enterprise-grade:
- Reconciliation processes
- Data validation frameworks
- Audit controls
- Data lineage solutions
- Schema drift monitoring
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with Genesys Cloud or Genesys A3S data platforms.
- Experience with Verint workforce management and quality monitoring data.
- Contact center and telephony domain expertise, including:
- Call Detail Records (CDRs)
- Agent performance analytics
- IVR and routing data
- Quality evaluation metrics
- Experience supporting large-scale migration and parallel-run initiatives.
- Familiarity with sales analytics and workforce reporting environments.
Success Metrics
- Within this role, you will successfully:
- Design a scalable Bronze/Silver/Gold architecture for Genesys and Verint integrations.
- Deliver robust ingestion frameworks with reliable watermarking and recovery mechanisms.
- Implement Gold-layer dimensional models supporting enterprise reporting and analytics.
- Establish data quality processes that ensure accuracy, reliability, and auditability.
- Partner effectively with stakeholders throughout migration, parallel-run, and platform modernization initiatives.
Apex pay scales are determined by role, experience, skill set, and location. For this new position, the estimated hourly range is provided below as a guideline; however, total compensation may vary based on individual circumstances.
Hourly Range: $80.00/hr.-$100.00/hr.
