Original job description

Location: 2150 Robertson Rd, Nepean, ON

Who We Are

Appletree Medical Group is Canada’s most progressive multi-disciplinary medical organization. We support and manage the practices of Ontario’s leading family physicians and specialists, including those delivering innovative virtual healthcare services.

For more than two decades, we have partnered with talented, driven individuals who share our mission to improve access to high-quality community healthcare across Canada. As we continue to grow, our journey now extends beyond borders - supporting communities around the world as they work to rebuild and expand access to care.

We are only just getting started. Discover how you can join our exceptional team and play a role in shaping the future of community healthcare.

Why You Should Join Us

At Appletree, we offer a wide range of career opportunities for individuals seeking meaningful experience in the healthcare industry. Our roles are well suited for medical school hopefuls, those exploring a career in healthcare, foreign medical graduates, individuals still discovering their career path, and experienced professionals eager to make a positive impact in their community.

We are committed to supporting our team members with opportunities for growth, flexible work hours, access to premium healthcare services for you and your family, a flexible benefits plan, and hands-on experience that helps jumpstart careers while fostering ongoing professional development.

The Opportunity

The Medical Assistant role is ideal for recent post-secondary graduates, students in their final year who can commit to 3–5 full-day shifts per week, or individuals taking a gap year to gain meaningful, hands-on work experience. No prior medical experience is required. We are seeking candidates with a strong customer service background - such as experience in retail, fast food, or other fast-paced environments - who are enthusiastic about pursuing a career in healthcare.

Compensation

Base rate of $17.95 per hour, with opportunities for additional earnings and career advancement.

Benefits

Comprehensive coverage including vision, dental, medical, and paramedical services, with eligibility beginning after 6 months of continuous full-time employment.

What You'll Do

Medical Assistants receive comprehensive training and are responsible for the following duties:
Accurately register patients and manage administrative tasks, including reception, appointment scheduling, and payment collection.
Prepare patients for clinical appointments by welcoming them into exam rooms and performing triage.
Apply approved scripts, scenarios, and clinical protocols appropriately and consistently.
Utilize the Electronic Medical Record system (EMR Advantage) accurately and efficiently.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels by daily stocking of exam rooms and clinic areas.
Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment by regularly cleaning and sanitizing exam rooms, foyers, and washrooms.
Complete clinic opening and closing procedures as required.
Manage records and documentation, along with other administrative duties as assigned.
Participate in training for one or more specialty programs (e.g., Travel Medicine, Allergy Testing, Foot Care, and Well-Baby Care) following successful completion of a 3-month probationary review.
Perform additional duties as required to support clinic operations.

What We're Looking For

Must reside in the Ottawa region. This is an onsite role and not remote.
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident), or hold a valid work permit for at least 12 months from the start date. Sponsorship is not available.
Able to perform an active, physically demanding role, spending most of the day on your feet and moving throughout the clinic; agility and stamina are essential.
Completion of 1–2 years of post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
An undergraduate or bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Kinesiology, General Science, or Arts is considered an asset.
6 months to 1 year of customer service experience in a fast-paced environment (e.g., retail or hospitality).
Excellent English communication skills (verbal, written, reading, and comprehension). Additional language proficiency is an asset.
Demonstrated reliability, commitment, and flexibility to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Willingness to work across multiple clinic or office locations within the region.
Strong interest in continuous learning, training, and professional development.

What's Next

Our hiring process is thorough and designed to ensure a strong mutual fit - both for you and for our organization. We are committed to fairness, equity, and diversity, and as such, candidates will have the opportunity to meet and engage with multiple members of our hiring team throughout the process.

The screening stage includes application questions and an initial video interview. Candidates who successfully advance to the selection stage may be invited to a live interview, during which detailed information about the role will be shared. This stage also provides candidates with the opportunity to ask role-specific questions and make an informed decision about joining our team.

We are committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals. In support of this commitment, reasonable accommodations are available for candidates with disabilities throughout the recruitment and interview process. If you require an accommodation, please contact careers@appletreemedicalgroup.com.
