Company Overview
Founded in 2004, Applied Biological Materials (abm) Inc. develops and commercializes life science tools that support scientific research and drug discovery. Our technologies and product portfolio include cell engineering, CRISPR gene editing, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), stem cell differentiation, organoids, and advanced cell models.
Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, with operations in the United States, China, and France, abm serves academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, contract research organizations (CROs), and government research laboratories worldwide.
To support our continued expansion, we are looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join our Cell Biology team. This hands-on role focuses primarily on coordinating customer orders, preparing cell-based products for shipment, and communicating across departments to ensure accurate, timely order fulfillment. Routine cell culture and laboratory support are also part of the role.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, responsive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities while working closely with laboratory, production, customer service, and shipping teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate cell biology customer orders from internal request through product preparation, documentation, and shipment readiness.
- Communicate regularly with Customer Service, Sales, Production, Quality Control, and Shipping to confirm order requirements, priorities, and timelines.
- Track order progress, flag inventory shortages or delays promptly, and follow up with relevant teams to resolve issues.
- Support routine cell culture, including cell maintenance, passaging, freezing, thawing, counting, and viability checks as needed.
- Verify product identity, quantity, labeling, storage requirements, and accompanying records before releasing items for shipment.
- Prepare and package cell lines and related products for shipment in accordance with approved SOPs and applicable temperature requirements.
- Maintain accurate order status, shipping preparation records, cryopreserved inventory, and traceability documentation.
- Prepare culture media and supplies, maintain laboratory equipment, and keep work areas clean and organized.
- Coordinate daily priorities with the Cell Biology team to meet customer deadlines and ensure timely handoffs between departments.
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related field.
- Hands-on mammalian cell culture experience through employment, co-op, internship, or academic laboratory work.
- Experience with order fulfillment, shipping preparation, inventory tracking, or laboratory logistics is an asset.
- Ability to follow SOPs, verify details accurately, and maintain complete, organized records.
- Strong communication and coordination skills, with confidence following up across multiple departments.
- Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail; able to prioritize multiple orders and deadlines.
- Comfortable with routine, hands-on laboratory work and a collaborative, customer-focused environment.
Compensation
- CAD $50,000-$58,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience.
- Semi-annual performance-based bonuses.
- Group extended health and dental benefits, paid time off, and paid holidays.
Work Location
- 1-3671 Viking Way, Richmond, BC V6V 2J5, Canada.
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week; one-year contract with potential for permanent employment.
- 100% onsite.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and able to work onsite in Richmond from the first day of employment.
*We thank all applicants for interest in abm and the role. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
