Role : SQL DBA Senior Technical Lead
Location: Vancouver ,BC ,Canada
Experience : 10+
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SQL DBA Senior Technical Lead to lead Microsoft SQL Server database administration, production support, performance optimization, and HA/DR operations. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on SQL Server expertise, technical leadership experience, and exposure to enterprise production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead SQL Server DBA operations and L2/L3 production support.
- Manage SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching and migrations.
- Administer Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, replication and log shipping.
- Manage database backup, recovery, disaster recovery and availability.
- Perform performance tuning, query optimization, index maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Monitor database health, capacity, blocking, deadlocks and SQL Agent jobs.
- Manage database security, access controls, auditing and compliance.
- Troubleshoot critical production incidents and perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- Lead DBA teams, coordinate with stakeholders and ensure SLA adherence.
- Maintain technical documentation, runbooks, SOPs and DR procedures.
Required Skills
- 10–15 years of Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience.
- Strong experience with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022.
- Expertise in Always On, Failover Clustering, HA/DR and backup/recovery.
- Strong T-SQL, stored procedures and performance tuning.
- Hands-on experience with SSMS, SQL Agent, Query Store and Extended Events.
- Windows Server administration and PowerShell scripting.
- Experience in database security, monitoring and production troubleshooting.
- Experience with enterprise backup tools such as CommVault.
- Knowledge of ITIL, ServiceNow/Jira and SLA-driven environments.
- Strong technical leadership and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills
- Azure SQL, SQL Server on Azure VM and Azure Arc.
- Utility or regulated infrastructure environments.
- Managed services and 24x7 production support experience.
