What You’ll Do
- Leverage your understanding of user interface patterns and behaviors to enhance user comprehension and task performance.
- Utilize visualizations and interactions to facilitate analytic thinking with complex data sets.
- Lead design critiques, assess interactions for inclusivity, and provide expert guidance to cross-functional teams.
- Facilitate ideation sessions and collaborative design activities.
- Act as the subject-matter expert for interaction design within the product design team.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of interaction design theory, visual design theory, research data, and best practices to inform design decisions.
- Develop complex low-fidelity sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to explore, communicate, and validate ideas.
- Produce detailed prototypes to provide precise delivery specifications for development.
- Present interaction design work to senior stakeholders, articulating your vision and rationale.
- Facilitate usability testing sessions to gather critical user feedback.
- Initiate and participate in various research activities to deepen user understanding.
- Research interaction design strategies within our industry and conduct competitive audits relevant to specific design or business objectives.
- Perform detailed pattern, micro-interaction, and component design audits as needed.
Must-Have Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or equivalent practical experience.
- A compelling portfolio showcasing application design samples.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience designing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms.
- Experience in an applied research setting, including integrating user research into product designs and design practices.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rationale, and logic, clearly describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions.
- Expertise with design, prototyping, and research tools such as Figma, Mural, and UserTesting.com.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field.
- Strong understanding of the strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
- Appreciation for the potential of ‘design thinking’.
- Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment.
