Original job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Sales professional to drive commercial growth and develop strategic customer relationships across the North American mining industry.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded sales professional who understands the mining sector, the equipment used across mining and mineral processing operations, and the complexities of selling into large-scale industrial projects. You will engage directly with mine owners and operators, engineering consultancies, EPCs and EPCMs to identify opportunities, influence project decisions and develop long-term partnerships.

Combining hands-on business development with strategic market development, you will play a key role in identifying where the business should focus its efforts, understanding customer requirements and positioning engineered equipment solutions to win new projects.

The ideal candidate will bring credibility within the mining industry, an established network of industry contacts and the ability to understand the commercial, technical and operational drivers behind customer decisions.

About Our Client

Our client is a globally established provider of engineered equipment, aftermarket parts and technical services to the mining, minerals processing and bulk material handling industries.

With decades of industry experience and a strong reputation for delivering engineered solutions, the business works with customers across complex industrial environments, supporting both new projects and existing operations.

As the business continues to grow its presence across North America, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to its regional sales strategy, customer relationships and long-term commercial success.

About the Role

Working closely with senior leadership, you will combine strategic thinking with a proactive, customer-facing approach to develop new business and strengthen the company's position across North America.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Drive strategic business development: Identify, develop and convert new sales opportunities across the mining, minerals processing and bulk material handling sectors, targeting both new and existing customers.
  • Build senior-level customer relationships: Develop strong relationships with mine owners, operators, maintenance and reliability teams, engineering managers, procurement leaders and other key decision-makers.
  • Engage with EPCs and EPCMs: Build relationships with engineering consultants, project houses and contractors to identify upcoming projects and position the company's equipment and solutions during early engineering and design stages.
  • Understand the mining customer: Develop a clear understanding of operational challenges, productivity targets, plant performance, maintenance requirements, capital expenditure priorities and the commercial drivers behind equipment purchasing decisions.
  • Develop regional sales strategy: Work with senior leadership to identify target markets, customers, commodities and projects, translating market intelligence into actionable sales and growth plans.
  • Identify opportunities early: Monitor feasibility studies, pre-feasibility studies, project announcements, plant expansions, upgrades and sustaining capital programs to establish early engagement and influence equipment selection.
  • Own the sales process: Manage opportunities from initial engagement and qualification through technical discussions, proposals, commercial negotiations and contract award.
  • Develop strategic account plans: Establish structured plans for priority customers, mapping key stakeholders, understanding their project pipelines and identifying opportunities across both capital equipment and aftermarket offerings.
  • Provide technical-commercial input: Work collaboratively with engineering, proposals, estimating and product teams to develop competitive solutions that address customer requirements and deliver commercial value.
  • Generate market intelligence: Monitor competitor activity, industry developments, customer investment plans and changing market conditions across Canada, the United States and Mexico.
  • Represent the business in the market: Attend customer meetings, site visits, industry conferences and trade events to strengthen the company's profile and expand its network.
  • Maintain a strong sales pipeline: Use CRM systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics, to track opportunities, forecast revenue, document customer engagement and provide meaningful reporting on regional sales performance.
  • Contribute to long-term growth: Identify opportunities to expand the customer base, strengthen market penetration and develop new commercial opportunities as the North American business grows.

About You

You are an experienced technical sales or business development professional who understands the mining industry and knows how to build credibility with customers across operational, engineering and commercial functions.

You combine the relationship-building skills of a strong salesperson with the commercial judgement and strategic thinking required to develop markets and win complex, long-cycle projects.

You will ideally bring:

  • 5–10+ years of relevant experience in technical sales, business development or commercial roles within mining, mineral processing, bulk material handling or related heavy industrial sectors.
  • A track record of selling capital equipment, engineered products, plant systems or technical solutions into mining or industrial customers.
  • Established relationships with mining operators, mine owners, EPCs, EPCMs, engineering consultancies or other key industry stakeholders.
  • An understanding of how mining projects are developed, funded, engineered, procured and executed, including the different priorities of operators, project owners and engineering contractors.
  • The ability to engage confidently with technical and operational stakeholders while also negotiating with senior commercial decision-makers.
  • A strategic approach to sales, with the ability to identify target accounts, assess market potential, prioritise opportunities and develop practical plans to generate revenue.
  • An appreciation of mining operations and the challenges customers face around productivity, reliability, maintenance, plant performance, capital costs and equipment lifecycle value.
  • Experience managing complex sales cycles involving technical specifications, competitive tenders, proposals, commercial negotiations and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to identify customer needs and translate them into compelling technical and commercial solutions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship management skills, with the confidence to represent the business at senior levels.
  • A proactive, commercially driven mindset, comfortable working autonomously while collaborating with a wider regional and global team.
  • Experience with CRM systems and structured pipeline management.
  • Familiarity with the North American mining market, particularly Canada and the United States; exposure to Mexico would be advantageous.

A degree in mechanical engineering, process engineering or a related technical discipline would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience and a strong technical-commercial track record are equally important.

French language skills would be beneficial for engagement across French-speaking Canadian markets.

The successful candidate must hold a valid driver's licence and be willing to travel throughout North America to engage with customers and support business development activities.

The Opportunity

This role will suit a senior sales professional who wants to do more than manage an existing portfolio. You will have the opportunity to influence regional sales strategy, develop key industry relationships and play a direct role in growing an established engineered equipment business across the North American mining market.

  • If you understand the mining industry, know how to engage the people who make equipment decisions and can combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to winning business, this is an opportunity to make a significant commercial impact.
