Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a Claims Manager to join our growing Cost and Commercial team in Canada. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Director and Commercial Director to develop, manage, and monitor claims on high-risk projects and contracts.
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams including Commercial, Change Management, Operations, Technical, and Planning, to provide guidance on contractual and claims-related matters. A key part of the position involves identifying potential risks early and developing practical mitigation strategies to reduce the likelihood of disputes. You will also assess and analyze contractual claims, including entitlement reviews, extensions of time, and cost claims, helping to ensure issues are managed proactively and effectively.
You will bring strong expertise in Primavera P6 and delay analysis, partnering with schedulers to develop fragnets for delay events and support robust claims analysis. Taking ownership of claims across their full lifecycle, you will prepare notices, maintain accurate records, establish entitlement, validate supporting information, and demonstrate the time and cost impacts of claim events. You will also quantify claims, prepare submissions, support settlement negotiations, and, where required, help crystallize disputes for further resolution.
The role requires the ability to communicate complex contractual issues clearly and persuasively. You will prepare concise, insightful reports and briefing notes for commercial teams, legal counsel, senior leadership, and other stakeholders, while also presenting recommendations to management. In addition, you will play an active role in negotiating and resolving disputes with contractors, using sound judgment and commercial awareness to achieve balanced outcomes.
As a subject matter expert in claims and contract management, you will provide trusted advice to project teams and stakeholders across the business. Drawing on your knowledge of CCDC, FIDIC, and other standard contract forms, you will help promote contractual compliance, strengthen risk management practices, and support successful project delivery. You will also contribute to the ongoing improvement of contract management systems, procedures, and tools, while maintaining your professional competence through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and undertaking other duties as required by your manager or Arcadis.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
- LL.M. or MSc in Construction Law, Contract Law, or a related field preferred
- Membership in recognized professional bodies such as PQS, MRICS, or MIOB preferred
- Membership or Fellowship in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, including MCIArb or FCIArb, highly desirable
- Experience working in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, or the Middle East required
- Minimum 12 years of experience in contract management, contract administration, claims preparation, and claims rebuttal on major infrastructure projects, preferably in metro, LRT, or other transportation projects
- Experience in both contracting and consulting environments preferred
- Postgraduate qualifications considered an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The salary range for this position is $93,000 - $139,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
