Original job description
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Instrumentation & Monitoring (I&M) Data Review and Monitoring Engineer to provide continuous first-line engineering surveillance of the centralized monitoring dashboard. The role is responsible for identifying trigger notifications, abnormal trends, data gaps and instrument faults; completing immediate validation checks; compiling the information required for senior engineering assessment; and maintaining a complete record of actions and communications. This is an active engineering monitoring role, not passive dashboard observation.
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will provide active, first-line engineering oversight of the centralized I&M monitoring dashboard throughout your assigned shift. You will stay alert to trigger notifications, abnormal trends, data gaps and instrument faults while maintaining awareness of construction activities taking place near monitored assets. Your work will help ensure that important changes in ground and structural response are identified promptly and assessed with the right context.
You will review automatic alerts, instrument status, data continuity, trend plots, rates of change and approved thresholds, using raw data and nearby instruments to complete immediate validation checks. By drawing on recent readings, construction logs, weather conditions, and known maintenance or communications issues, you will distinguish potential engineering concerns from data-quality or instrumentation issues and provide clear, factual information for senior engineering review.
You will play a key role in the project’s response process by escalating amber and red triggers, unexplained movement, data loss and instrument faults in accordance with the approved Response Action Plan. You will prepare clear plots, tables, data exports and concise summaries for the Senior I&M QA Engineer and I&M QA Lead, while coordinating with the I&M Field QA Engineer to gather photographs, work activity details, equipment locations, timing and other relevant field information.
You will also maintain a comprehensive shift log covering alerts, validation checks, communications, decisions, actions, open items and handover status. In addition, you will track instrument installation, commissioning, baseline establishment, calibration, maintenance, damage, replacement and data availability, supporting the preparation of weekly and monthly system-quality reports. Your disciplined documentation and timely escalation will help protect worker and public safety, adjacent infrastructure and overall design performance.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, structural, geological or a closely related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 3 years involving instrumentation, construction monitoring or time-series engineering data
- Experience with automated monitoring platforms, alert systems, data visualization and data-quality review
- Strong Excel skills; experience with Power BI, GIS, Python, SQL or specialist monitoring software is an asset
- Understanding of construction sequencing and the relationship between site activities and ground or structural response
- Strong attention to data integrity, disciplined escalation and concise written communication
Role requirements
- Site-based role operating on rotating day and night shifts
- Sustained dashboard attention and reliable attendance are essential
- Formal face-to-face or documented shift handover is mandatory
