Original job description
Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.
We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.
Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an Instrumentation & Monitoring (I&M) Field Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to verify instrumentation installation, operation and construction interfaces in the field and to provide dependable site information for monitoring assessment. The role will inspect monitoring works against approved drawings, specifications, method statements and ITPs; verify baseline and commissioning activities; investigate field conditions following alerts; and record construction activities that may influence monitoring response.
Role accountabilities:
In this role, you will provide hands-on quality assurance across instrumentation and monitoring works in active construction areas. You will inspect proposed and completed instrument locations, access arrangements, protection, identification, cabling, dataloggers, survey control, and overall physical condition. You will also witness installation, commissioning, calibration checks, baseline and manual readings, and required hold or witness points, ensuring that field-fitted instruments remain accessible, protected, and compatible with evolving construction geometry.
You will play a vital part in maintaining reliable monitoring coverage as construction progresses. This will involve identifying instruments that become inaccessible, damaged, or unreliable; confirming that active work areas have appropriate monitoring; and recording factual information about nearby construction activities. Your field records will capture details such as location, time, equipment, work sequence, excavation level, piling or ground-improvement activities, and relevant site conditions.
When monitoring alerts arise, you will respond promptly by inspecting affected areas, checking instrument condition, and gathering photographs, measurements, and contractor information. Working closely with monitoring subcontractors and contractors, you will coordinate access, verification, and corrective actions while maintaining an independent QA role. You will review installation records, ITPs, method statements, drawings, calibration documentation, and as-built information to confirm that documentation is complete, consistent, and representative of observed site conditions.
You will help drive timely resolution by raising and tracking deficiencies, including incorrect installation, inadequate protection, damaged instruments, data interruptions, incomplete records, and unapproved changes. Through clear field reports, photographic records, marked-up drawings, and shift handover notes, you will provide dependable site information to the wider project team. You will also escalate unsafe conditions, material movement, or potentially significant performance concerns immediately.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, geotechnical, geological or structural engineering, or a recognized engineering technology qualification with substantial relevant experience
- Minimum 7 years of construction field experience, including direct involvement with instrumentation, geotechnical works, foundations, excavation, piling, ground improvement or dewatering
- Practical knowledge of ITPs, hold and witness points, field inspections, commissioning records, non-conformances and as-built documentation
- Ability to interpret monitoring layouts, construction drawings, specifications and method statements
- Experience working directly with contractors and specialist instrumentation subcontractors
- Strong factual reporting, evidence collection and escalation skills
Role requirements
- Full-time site-based position with day or night shift assignment
- Regular outdoor work in active heavy-civil construction areas is required
- Must meet all project access, safety, PPE and fatigue-management requirements
