Original job description

Arcadis is the world's leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

We are more than 34,000 people, in over 30 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Instrumentation & Monitoring (I&M) Monitoring Technician / Data Coordinator to provide the operational control needed for continuous monitoring coverage. The role will maintain instrument and alert records, complete routine data-quality checks, support manual and field verification, assemble information for engineering review and ensure that each shift hands over a complete and accurate picture of system status and outstanding actions.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will provide the vigilant oversight needed to keep the monitoring system reliable and responsive. You will observe assigned dashboards, identify alerts, missing or inconsistent data, communication interruptions, flatline readings, and unusual behavior, then report issues promptly through the approved channels. You will also complete routine data-quality and completeness checks to confirm that expected readings are being received and accurately recorded.

You will maintain essential monitoring records, including the master instrument register, system status list, alert log, calibration and maintenance tracker, and open-action register. Working closely with the wider project team, you will compile monitoring plots, data exports, photographs, construction logs, and other supporting documentation for engineering review. You will coordinate or complete manual readings and field checks, accurately document the results, and track each instrument through installation, commissioning, baseline establishment, maintenance, damage, replacement, and decommissioning.

You will contribute to daily, weekly, and monthly monitoring reports while keeping electronic project records organized, current, and easy to retrieve by instrument, location, date, or event. At the end of each shift, you will deliver a structured handover covering active alerts, unavailable instruments, outstanding field checks, pending engineering reviews, and required notifications. Throughout the role, you will follow approved escalation procedures and maintain clear boundaries by recording and communicating observations without providing engineering interpretation beyond your authority.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Technical diploma or qualification in engineering technology, instrumentation, geomatics, surveying or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in monitoring, instrumentation, surveying, construction quality or technical data coordination
  • Experience using monitoring dashboards, spreadsheets and electronic document or records systems
  • Familiarity with common geotechnical and structural monitoring instruments preferred
  • High level of accuracy, sustained attention and reliability in shift-based operations
  • Clear verbal and written communication and disciplined record keeping

Role Requirements:

  • Site-based role operating on rotating day and night shifts
  • May combine control-room or dashboard duties with field verification
  • Reliable shift attendance and complete handover are essential to continuous coverage
