Role description:

We are seeking a Senior Renewables Construction Manager with 10+ years of experience delivering utility-scale and industrial renewable energy projects, including solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, and related infrastructure. This part-time, as-needed role splits time between business development and billable construction management, providing constructability, schedule, cost, quality, safety, and site leadership from development through commissioning and closeout.

Role accountabilities:

  • Construction Management: Lead construction management for solar PV, BESS, substation, transmission, and civil infrastructure projects, including constructability and design reviews, execution planning, contractor strategies, and schedule, cost, and risk optimization.
  • Schedule, Cost, and Project Controls: Develop and monitor schedules, milestones, and critical paths; manage budgets, changes, forecasts, progress, and contractor performance; maintain document control and reporting systems.
  • Execution, Quality, and Turnover: Oversee procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and turnover; review submittals, RFIs, and turnover packages; lead QA/QC inspections, audits, deficiency tracking, and corrective actions.
  • Site Supervision, Client Reporting, and Compliance: Supervise sites and coordinate contractors and stakeholders; report to clients on progress, cost, risk, and safety; ensure regulatory, permit, environmental, and contractual compliance; help avoid claims and resolve disputes.
  • Health, Safety, and Site Leadership: Champion a safety-first culture by reviewing safety plans, hazard assessments, and contractor programs; participate in inspections, audits, and investigations; lead site logistics, sequencing, and work-face planning.
  • Business Development and Market Growth: Pursue opportunities with developers, utilities, industrial clients, Indigenous communities, EPC contractors, and public-sector organizations; contribute to proposals, fee estimates, staffing plans, and marketing materials; represent the firm at client meetings and conferences; and act as a trusted advisor to grow solar, storage, grid modernization, transmission, and decarbonization work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education and Experience: Diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field, with 10+ years of construction management experience in renewable energy, power, or industrial projects such as utility-scale solar, BESS, substations, or transmission.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of EPC contracts, construction execution, commissioning, turnover, QA/QC, and Canadian health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; proficient with scheduling, cost control, risk management, and reporting tools.
  • Leadership and Business Development: Proven ability to manage contractors, consultants, and multidisciplinary teams; experience in pre-construction planning, proposals, and client relationship development; excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Designations and Travel: PMP, Gold Seal, P.Eng., CET, or equivalent is an asset; willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Industry Insight: Established relationships in the renewable energy, utility, Indigenous, industrial, or EPC sectors; practical knowledge of solar, storage, substation, and interconnection challenges; owner's engineer, owner's representative, or construction advisory experience; skill in identifying and mitigating risks early.
  • Leadership and Passion: Proven ability to balance technical excellence, client service, delivery, and business development; strong presence to mentor teams and influence stakeholders; passion for renewable energy and the energy transition.
