Senior Software Developer - Tolling and Revenue Systems

Role description:

We need an experienced senior developer to play a critical role in delivering world-class tolling and revenue systems. This is a hands-on role with real technical influence: you will own significant features end to end, shape design decisions on systems that handle money and regulated data, and

set the standard for how the team writes and reviews code. Because these systems are revenue-critical and run continuously, we need someone who will see a problem through to resolution in production.

Role accountabilities:

What You'll Be Working On

• Feature-driven development within a distributed team of developers, testers, business analysts, and project managers.

• Design, development, testing, and maintenance of secure services and applications across the tolling stack - roadside and lane software, back-office transaction and account processing, and customer-facing web and mobile channels.

• Interfaces to external systems - payment and financial processors, CRM platforms, IVR and contact centre systems, interoperability hubs, registry lookups, and third-party violation and collection services.

• Software deployment and support of production systems for various clients around the world.

• Peer review of solution designs, architectures, and code, and hands-on support when production issues arise.

Software Development

• Provide senior-level, full-stack development across front end, back end, and database, with emphasis on systems design in a revenue-critical environment.

• Build and extend back-office capability: transaction and trip processing, account and customer management, fare and toll rate configuration, money handling and settlement, video and image auditing, and violation processing.

• Develop and maintain customer-facing web portals and mobile applications, and the APIs behind them.

• Integrate with roadside and lane systems, automated payment machines, and customer display devices, working with the roadside team on interface definition and troubleshooting.

• Define automated tests that prove the correctness of service logic, and optimize data storage and retrieval against SQL Server and Oracle databases.

• Identify and mitigate security risks, participate in security reviews and vulnerability remediation, and support compliance obligations that apply to payment and personal data.

• Support delivery and operations teams through deployments, upgrades, and production incidents, and work with client technical staff during integration, testing, and acceptance.

• Make effective use of modern development tooling, including AI-assisted coding tools, with sound judgment about where they help and where they introduce risk.

Technical Leadership

• Provide technical direction to other developers, and aid decision making by evaluating options for best fit.

• Perform code reviews with constructive, specific feedback, advocating for best practices and consistency.

• Review and advise on effort estimates and client feature requests, and contribute to technology stack evaluations and architectural direction.

• Mentor developers, promote a culture of continuous learning and accountability, and drive improvement in quality and delivery efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum seven years of professional software development experience.

• Deep practical knowledge of C# and .NET, including Web API.

• Experience with front-end technologies, particularly Angular and TypeScript.

• Strong relational database skills with SQL Server and/or Oracle, including query development, optimization, and support.

• Comfortable working with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot as part of day-to-day delivery.

• Experience delivering and maintaining customer-facing production systems, with a track record of owning issues through to resolution.

• Understanding of distributed systems, application of software patterns and pros and cons of different architectural choices.

• Strong grasp of the full software development life cycle, including CI/CD, testing strategy, and deployment practices.

• Confident, clear communication with clients as well as colleagues.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with tolling, transit fare collection, payments, billing, or another revenue or transaction processing domain.

• Familiarity with payment processing, PCI DSS obligations, or financial reconciliation and settlement.

• Experience integrating with CRM platforms such as Dynamics 365, or with contact centre and IVR systems.

• Mobile development experience, or exposure to additional front-end frameworks such as React or Vue.js.

• Experience in a consulting or client-delivery setting, working across distributed international teams.

The salary range for this position is $130.000 - $155.000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
