At ArcelorMittal Dofasco, we play a key role in North America’s advanced manufacturing supply chain working with the top automotive, energy, packaging, and construction brands to develop lighter, stronger and more sustainable steel products. From our vehicles to our power, and our food to our highways, steel is critical to the lives, prosperity and safety of Canadians.

Manufacturing Applications Engineer
ArcelorMittal Dofasco – Process Automation Department
Permanent Position | Hamilton, ON

Background:

ArcelorMittal Dofasco operates a world-class computer-integrated manufacturing facility utilizing modern information technologies and industrial automation. The Process Automation Department is responsible for large-scale, high-impact manufacturing application systems that are integral to production - from raw materials to finished products. We continuously advance automation and digital capabilities to enable safe, reliable, and high-performing operations.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced, outcomes-driven Manufacturing Applications Engineer to own and improve plant-critical manufacturing applications and Operational Technology (OT)-enabled information systems. This role is ideal for someone who can bridge operations and technology, translate production needs into practical solutions, and drive reliable execution through cross-functional teams and vendors.

The successful candidate’s position title (Sr. Analyst / Specialist / Sr. Specialist) will be based on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Own the lifecycle of manufacturing applications and OT systems: requirements, delivery, sustainment, and continuous improvement.
Partner with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering to identify high-value enhancements, define scope, and prioritize work.
Support system integration across OT platforms (automation interfaces, historians, databases, reporting/analytics, and application-to-application interfaces).
Improve system reliability through disciplined incident/problem management, root-cause analysis, and prevention of repeat failures.
Coordinate vendors and internal teams through implementation, testing, commissioning support, and stabilization.
Maintain strong operational practices: change management, documentation, standards, backup/restore readiness, and cybersecurity alignment.
Contribute to team capability building through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

Desired Skills & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Physics, Computer, or related).
Demonstrated experience supporting or leading work in an industrial/manufacturing environment with OT systems and plant-critical applications.
Strong troubleshooting skills: structured problem investigation, risk assessment, and practical mitigation.
Ability to manage competing priorities and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical familiarity with manufacturing/OT environments (e.g., industrial automation concepts, data collection, historians, databases, interfaces).
A solid foundation in software development is needed to be effective in this role, although advanced development is not the primary focus (e.g., scripting, SQL, configuration, basic coding).

Work Environment:

Office and industrial setting in production areas when necessary.

Work Expectations:

Days, Monday–Friday with extended hours to cover project deadlines and peak workloads as required.
Flexible start / end times
Paid on-call rotation.

Total Rewards at ArcelorMittal Dofasco

We value you, and your contributions to our mutual success. To recognize this, we provide extensive and market-competitive total rewards including salary, variable pay, employer funded retirement savings, group benefits with fully paid premiums, and other programs like recognition points and wellness initiatives.

The salary range for this position is $66,000 - $114,000. Starting salary will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and work experience.

On your first day you will immediately be eligible for:

- Participation in our annual bonus plan based on the achievement of Company goals against target metrics at a rate of 10%
- Company paid Defined Contribution Pension Plan with employer contributions between 5 and 10%. No employee contribution required.
- Competitive vacation allowances
- Group Benefits with no health and dental premiums.
- For health and dental claims, you only pay amounts above the maximums the plan pays.
- Life insurance premiums are shared with the company.

After two years of permanent company service, you will participate in our Profit Sharing, where all permanent employees share equally in the allocation of profits.

Other immediate benefits include:

- Competitive vacation entitlements
- PPE and workwear provided at no cost
- Wellness and Employee Assistance Programs
- Free access to three onsite fitness centers and our 70-acre recreation park with multiple arenas, fields and organized sports for you and your family

We value a diverse workforce and an inclusive culture, where everyone feels welcomed, valued, respected and heard.
