Who we need
Reporting to the Senior VP, North American Finance, we are hiring a Customs & Trade Compliance Analyst. to support compliant, accurate, and efficient import and export activity across our North American and global shipment lanes. As our new Customs Specialist, you will own the processes that ensure our products move across borders accurately and efficiently, in compliance with customs requirements. Your initial priority will be strengthening our Canada-U.S. customs processes, particularly shipments from Canada into the U.S., with the scope expanding to inbound shipments from China, cross-border activity involving Mexico, and other global markets.
You will apply your customs expertise to understand Array’s products, determine the appropriate classifications and documentation, and establish consistent processes for HS codes, commercial invoices, audits, duty drawback, and broker management. Working closely with customs brokers, our Shipping and Logistics teams, Finance, Operations, and other internal partners, you will help ensure shipments move efficiently across borders while meeting evolving customs, trade, and regulatory requirements.
This is a full-time role based at our 45 Progress Ave Scarborough facility. You will initially work in a hybrid model, spending regular time in the office as you learn our products and processes and build relationships with our Shipping and Logistics teams. As you become established in the role, onsite attendance will shift to an as-needed basis.
What’s in it for you
Ownership and autonomy. This is a newly created role and an opportunity to own an important capability for Array in North America. You will establish and strengthen customs governance processes, determine how requirements are applied to our products, and help build a more consistent approach to classification, documentation, auditing, and compliance. You will report to a leader who values independence, gives people room to solve problems, and is available to provide direction and support when you need it.
Broaden your global trade expertise. Your initial focus will be on strengthening Canada-U.S. customs activity, particularly exports from Canada into the U.S. From there, your scope will expand to imports from China into Canada and the U.S., trade involving Mexico, and potentially shipments into Europe and other international markets. You will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge across multiple jurisdictions while becoming the internal resource teams turn to for customs and trade guidance.
Impact and career growth. Array ships products globally, allowing you to apply your expertise to real and evolving trade challenges. Your work will directly influence how we classify products, manage duties and tariffs, prepare for audits, work with brokers, and decide how products move across borders. As the function evolves, you may broaden your scope into global customs and trade or build further experience across logistics and supply chain operations.
As our new Customs Specialist, you will:
- Lead customs compliance and governance. You will own Array’s customs and compliance governance process, establishing clear processes for how products are classified, documented, reviewed, and moved across borders. You will stay current on customs rules, tariffs, government requirements, and trade regulations, and translate them into practical business processes.
- Classify Array’s products. You will develop a strong understanding of Array’s products and determine the appropriate HS, HTS, and tariff classifications across applicable jurisdictions. You will research classifications, rulings, and regulatory requirements and establish consistent processes for selecting and applying codes.
- Manage customs documentation and clearance. You will ensure commercial invoices and other customs documentation contain the information required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Canadian customs authorities, and other applicable government agencies. You will review clearance requests, customs entries, commercial invoices, certificates of origin, packing lists, bills of lading, air waybills, and supporting documentation to ensure product descriptions, classifications, values, origin, quantities, and consignee details are complete and accurate.
- Manage audits and resolve compliance issues. You will coordinate and manage customs audits and act as a knowledgeable point of contact when working directly with customs authorities. You will monitor and audit internal customs processes, identify discrepancies or compliance risks, and work with internal teams and external partners to resolve issues. Where corrections are required following clearance, you will prepare, coordinate, or support amended customs documentation.
- Oversee duties, drawback, and broker activity. You will manage duty drawback claims by identifying eligible shipments, coordinating documentation, reconciling supporting information, and working with brokers and internal teams on submissions. You will spot-check and validate broker invoicing and customs charges, review duty, brokerage, import, and export invoices for accuracy, and help ensure Array is being invoiced correctly and applying duties and tariffs appropriately.
- Build processes across teams and systems. You will partner closely with Shipping and Logistics, Finance, Operations, customs brokers, and other stakeholders to understand how products move through the business and develop practical customs processes that work across teams. You will help determine how customs documentation and information should flow through our ERP and automated systems, supporting accurate and efficient document generation.
- Expand our global customs capability. Your initial priority will be Canada-U.S. trade, particularly exports from Canada into the U.S. As our customs processes mature, you will expand your focus to imports from China into Canada and the U.S., shipments involving Mexico, and other international markets. When entering new jurisdictions, you will know how to research and interpret the customs, classification, tariff, and documentation requirements needed to move products compliantly.
You have:
- The customs expertise. You have experience working in customs compliance, customs brokerage, import/export operations, or a closely related global trade function. You understand customs rules, policies, documentation, audit requirements, and clearance processes and can independently apply that knowledge to products and shipments. Experience with U.S. customs and imports into the U.S. is particularly valuable for this role.
- The customs training. You have completed relevant customs training and ideally hold a customs designation or certification. You bring the foundational knowledge to work confidently with customs requirements and continue building your expertise as the role expands across jurisdictions.
- The classification and regulatory knowledge. You have experience researching, determining, and applying HS, HTS, and tariff classifications and understand how classification, origin, valuation, duties, tariffs, and supporting documentation affect cross-border shipments. You can interpret customs requirements and translate them into practical actions and processes for the business.
- The analytical skills and attention to detail. You can review shipment and customs data to identify inconsistencies, missing information, and potential compliance risks. You understand the level of rigour required when working with government agencies and preparing for customs audits. You investigate discrepancies, validate information, and ensure records and processes can withstand regulatory scrutiny.
- The systems skills. You are highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable working with ERP and automated systems. You understand how information flows through an ERP and can help develop processes that generate accurate customs documentation. Exposure to the U.S. Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) is an asset.
- The communication and collaboration skills. You build productive working relationships with customs brokers, government agencies and internal partners across Finance, Shipping, Logistics, and Operations. You can communicate professionally with external government agencies, including during audits, and explain customs requirements clearly to colleagues who may not have your technical expertise.
- The initiative and independence. You are comfortable being the customs subject matter resource in a newly created role, researching answers and making informed recommendations when no playbook exists. You can work independently, take ownership of issues, and know when to bring in your manager or other stakeholders for support.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $75,000-$95,000. Compensation is thoughtfully determined based on your experience, skill set, and alignment with our internal compensation framework. We’re always happy to answer questions about compensation throughout the hiring process.
